Trivia Question Proposed at DUS
Saturday night (well after midnight, so I suppose it was Sunday morning), there was a discussion of geography amongst a few FT’s. I think it was really a contest to see if Europeans were better at American geography than Americans were at European geography. 
Here is a question that was proposed by Mizu, “Geographically, what are the eastern, western, southern and northern most points of the 50 states?”
Certain FTers should not enter.
The first person to reply with the correct answer will win a prize (if you win, I hope you don't fly BA up front a lot).

Hi Chris .. nice meeting up with you and Darlene in DUS .. did that Cologne Cathedral pic Darlene took come out OK? I wasn't at your table so can enter this, but Opus looks spot on to me, at first look, without checking an atlas! (Did you look into that QF round Australia reward I outlined to you?)
I visited Point Barrow Alaska 2 years ago and have a photo of a dilapidated, bullet holed, snow surrounded (in mid Summer!) sign that says it is the most NORTHERN POINT IN USA right on the Arctic Ocean at N 71º 21.353 and w 156º 32.024 and is on this weblink:

Punki, I believe that was the point in DUS. However, after re-reading ChrisMoss7's post, it still appears to me that it is open to all except perhaps the fortunate FTs that were part of the DUS extravaganza (some people have all the luck) and may already know the answers. If I'm mistaken, I stand corrected. Far be it from me to overstep my bounds.

MRLIMO, I suspect that there are some of those fortunate DUS FlyerTalkers that cannot remember any of the answers they heard in DUS.

MrLimo loses on a technicality ... he got the co-ordinates wrong, and had them for the town of BARROW, (the most northern TOWN) and not Point Barrow which is a fair drive north of the town.
The co-ordinates in photo below are the correct ones I think or there will have been a few 100 p!ssed tourists over the years with this incorrect photo in their albums!

I recall one of our DUS fellow visitors reminded me once on these boards that Tasmania was a country, Australia was not a continent, and was anyway discovered in the 18th century by the British, so we all never stop learning about geography when we travel!

Well, looks like we have a winner. Or winners actually.
The reason that we are going to have two winners is that there is a little trick to this question. At what point does east become west?
Obviously Alaska is the northern most state with Hawaii being most southern, but some people believe that since NA and SA are the west and Asia is the East, that east and west are divided at 180 degrees longitude. If that were true, along with being the western most state, Alaska would also be the eastern most state because it extends past 180 degrees longitude into the east. Opus17 would subscribe to this practice.
On the other hand, some people believe east is to the right and west is to the left. MrLimo would subscribe to this theory.
In the end, both Opus17 and MrLimo are correct. Since they knew the correct states, they are close enough for me. Email me privately your snail mail address and I will get your prize out to you. You can even wait to open it on Christmas day if you wish.
So Bernie and Mizu, there are the correct answers.
