How did we get here?

I seem to recall that Randy mentioned a while back that there might be some changes coming to that board that involve incentives for referring new members. That led me to wonder,
How many current members are here because they were "recruited"? Did someone tell you about this board, and you checked it out and decided to stay? Do you recommend this board to FFliers you run into on the road/in the air? Or did most of us just stumble across FT via Webflyer (as did I)?

I for one stumbled across the website and have stayed. I have told many people that I have met in planes to check out the site. I usually save my Inside Flyer magazine and read it on the plane and it usually starts up a pretty good conversation with others regarding their FF habits.

I often wonder about this myself. I got here from The Mining Company site via the subsection, Air Travel.

I frequently refer people I meet on airplanes (only if they are really nice) and I have referred a few very good clients. (You know who you are!)

I found this board when I did a Yahoo search for "frequent flyer" or "mileage programs". This is ironic as I do subscribe to Inside Flyer. I found several other sites, but none compare.

I recommend FT to anyone who will listen, and e-mail pages to my friends when I think a topic will interest them.

I found this board on a mileage search, and enthusiastically recommend FT to friends and family.

As to the referral idea, I'm not sure how much interest it would generate. For example, I've had a post in the Diner's Club forum seeking a referral (that gives miles to the referrer), but have had little interest from FTers. FYI the link is: http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/Foru...ML/000081.html

JAWS_II got here as jaws43 because of a mileage promotion Randy was having. Basically, it required one to answer questions about different FF programs and the daily winner received miles. If there was no correct answer, the miles carried over to the next day. Randy gave away a lotof miles.

That was quite a PROMOTION and it got me hooked. That's where JAWS_II/jaws43 started on this habit. I believe it was during this promotion that I became acquainted with Catman, Rudi, and others currently posting regularly, and the infamous "sistertodd", who left after the contest. Whatever happened to the good "sister"?

The timeframe for this was 12-16 months ago.

Randy, you should run another contest like the original!!

Oh Rudi,

Who, in the world, would love you as much as we?

Web search from some engine or another last August (one of these days is my first FT anniversary). Was looking for info on upgrades.

Lurked for about a week, asked the question, got immediate thoughtful replies (some on the board, some personally).

Saw some interesting personalities -- hung around and some 400+ posts (and a year later), am still here...

Can't quite remember. Think I stumbled upon it while doing a search on Yahoo, don't remember what I was searching for. Think I posted on my first visit. Had lot's of fun though both in contributing and watching various "situations" from the sidelines.

I too think I was using some search engine or other regarding international upgrades. Found the FF web site, clicked on Flyer Talk and was hooked I have recommended this site to a variety of associates who fly/travel frequently.

I found it because I had been visiting InsideFlyer's Web site for a while. They posted announcements there that these discussion groups were being set up.

How did I come upon the InsideFlyer site? Darned if I remember - it was at least fifty Web years ago!

I was clued into it by the announcements posted on the InsideFlyer site.

How did I find the InsideFlyer site? Darned if I remember - it was a lot time ago (in Web years)!

I've never recruited anyone as such, but I've mentioned the site to a few people I thought might be interested. I've never followed up to see if any of them visited it, registered or actually posted anything.
