DO Information

Friday 21 April

6:00 pm drinks: Delirium Cafe (Be sure you go to Delirium Cafe, not Little Delirium!)

7:00 pm dinner: Bier Circus (capped at 12 persons)

Dinner Atendees: Polkacat +2, CDKing, krazykanuck, miko2a, miko2a +1, iris30, kma26, ANC RED-EYE, ANC RED-EYE+1, srletend

Saturday 22 April

Noon - 11 pm Zythos Bierfestival

Buy tokens in advance: http://www.zbf.be/en/advance-sales/
The list of beers is here.

For anyone who wants to travel in a group, I suggest IC 509 departing Central/Centraal at 11 am. This train arrives Leuven at 11:24.

For those who have not been before, if you travel on a train other than IC 509: exit the Leuven train station and bear right to get to the bus depot. The free shuttle to the hall is clearly marked and usually on the 3rd or so platform.

We will grab seats at a table toward the back on the right side of the main hall (in which all of the beer booths are located) as you walk in.

Sunday 23 April

Zythos Bierfestival 11 am - 9 pm

Possible alternate outing, TBD.

It's one token per pour. So... factor in how long you feel like hanging out, whether you'll be drinking higher ABV beers, etc.

I think a few of us bought 20+ last year and decided that was overkill.....
Which of the 2 dates are people going? It is 15% off if buying the large token lot so it wouldn't be such a bad deal if some people split the cost vs buying all those for themselves

I always use way too many tokens, I don't want to be drunk in an unfamiliar city, I've been known to lose track of how many sample pours at beer festivals

Oh yea that might be a good idea. I don't know how work is going to respond yet when they find out i'm doing Japan DO and BRU. Plus due to points issues i go to NRT a week before I need to be there. Get home for 2 days then head to BRU.

Agh! We'll be there in May! Only thing better than Belgian brews and chocolate, gaufres de Liege, stoofkarbonnade, modules et frites is all of that in good FlyerTalk company! Enjoy!

Mine is fairly accepting of longer absences. The other guy on my team took 4 straight weeks off during Dec/Jan so I think I'm in the clear.

Put me down as interested, if anyone is crossing the channel on Apr23rd let me know. My return flight leaves out of LGW, most likely will Eurostar it from BRU midi

More people will go on Saturday (April 22nd) although a few usually go on Sunday as well.

I always start off well on taking notes, but taper off eventually...

Please add me to the attending list!!! After VI years of hearing KMA26 and toomanybooks tell me about this DO, I am finally attending! I’m flying in to Paris 4-15, and at some point, I’ll make my way to BRU. I plan to take a day trip to Bruges (and maybe a few other places). I fly out of BRU on Monday 4-24.

For those going on side trips (Bruges, Antwerp, Ypres, etc.), feel free to PM me with places and dates and maybe we can plan to go together.

Unfortunately work is getting in the way so I (+1) will have to be removed from the attending list. I had first class award seats from ORD. Really tough letting those go.

That's a bummer. Sorry you won't be joining us after all.

Why would you spend so much time in Bruges? Yes it's beautiful but also small and full of tourists. Add Antwerp or a trip to the Ardennes or the seaside (Zwin nature reserve) or the war cemeteries.
Thanks Ghentleman... and sorry, I lost track of replies on this thread so I've only just realised I haven't replied you. I actually have only 1.5 days in Bruges now, since I fly in to BRU late on 18/4 evening, take the train to Bruges, and then I'm taking the train again from Bruges to Ghent in the late afternoon on 20/4.

Where will most people be staying?
I have CouchSurfing hosts lined up for my entire stay in Belgium. Bruges, Ghent, Leuven and Brussels.

Here's mine:
Tue 18/4: arrive BRU late evening, train to Bruges
Wed 19/4: Bruges
Thu 20/4: Bruges, late afternoon train to Ghent
Fri 21/4: Ghent, evening train to Leuven
Sat 22/4: Leuven and ZBF!
Sun 23/4: early morning train to Brussels (unless we are organising an excursion somewhere else?)
Mon 24/4: Brussels
Tue 25/4: early morning flight out of BRU

I didn't realise there was a poll?! If we are organising excursions, I may be interested in tagging along if possible. What's on the board now?

Sorry you missed the poll. Your itinerary looks great - if you want any suggestions for what to see or do in any of those cities, feel free to inquire on this thread.

There may be a fairly informal Sunday outing in lieu of a 2nd day at ZBF for those who are interested. It will likely have a beer focus. Past/possible destinations include In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst, a small village lambic/geuze pub only open on Sundays; De Heeren van Liedekercke, a renowned beer restaurant; a jaunt to Antwerp; or....???

Add me to the interested list

I haven't been to a FT Do in ages but I am going to be hanging out in Nice in April and this might be a fun side trip!

I will be coming with a Singaporean +1 and maybe my Belgian CouchSurfing host will also join as another +1.
