Friday 21 April

Saturday 22 April

Noon - 11 pm Zythos Bierfestival

Buy tokens in advance: http://www.zbf.be/en/advance-sales/
The list of beers is here.

For anyone who wants to travel in a group, I suggest IC 509 departing Central/Centraal at 11 am. This train arrives Leuven at 11:24.

For those who have not been before, if you travel on a train other than IC 509: exit the Leuven train station and bear right to get to the bus depot. The free shuttle to the hall is clearly marked and usually on the 3rd or so platform.

We will grab seats at a table toward the back on the right side of the main hall (in which all of the beer booths are located) as you walk in.

Sunday 23 April

Zythos Bierfestival 11 am - 9 pm

Possible alternate outing, TBD.

Indeed they do. I'm seeing 55 EUR/nt for both the Hilton Brussels City and the HGI for the weekend of BBF as the HHonors sale rate and 59 as the non-members sale rate. Not surprisingly, the rates are nonrefundable.

I have tentative flights on hold. Arrive back home from Japan DO and leave the next day on the 20th on Iceland air arriving BRU at noon on the 21st.

Leaving on the 25th for a 24 hour stop-over in Iceland.

Really tempting to just go to Korea DO and fly over to BRU from there Aeroflot is about the same as what Iceland Air Costs.

Is Bruges somewhere one can go on a day trip?

The basics of Bruges can be done as a one day trip. There are usually 2 direct trains per hour from Brussels which take just over an hour each way. Easy walk from the station to the heart of town.

Yep. Several folks have done a day trip to Bruges in previous years. It's well worth it!

Excellent!

There is no admission/ticket needed for entry to the beer fest. Instead, it is pay-as-you-go; you buy the tasting glass and tokens to redeem for beer. The past two years, they have offered online presale for the glass and tokens, which allows you to skip straight to the entry line on-site. I'll post a link in this thread when that is once again available.

We will definitely have to toast your birthday!

And we can confirm that the pre-sale of Starter Packs and additional tokens for ZBF has now gone live. ^

Hooray! While I know its personal preference, but how many tokens do people usually buy?

This reminds me that I really need to log my PTO request for this trip...

Most people buy too many. (Hopefully they're the same tokens as last year as I have some left....)

It's one token per pour. So... factor in how long you feel like hanging out, whether you'll be drinking higher ABV beers, etc.

I think a few of us bought 20+ last year and decided that was overkill.....
