Holy cow, this DO almost slipped my mind as I start my travel planning for this year!

Will start looking at flights, hotels, etc. probably this weekend. Still too early to commit at this point, but would love to visit FUK. (Have visited TYO a few times and still want to go back, but probably time to start branching out a bit.)

"You know that....lets go to Japan!"

Sometimes plans in life are changing involuntarily.

I will do the best of it and I'm really happy attending another Japan Do after 2014.

Count me in ^

Medical expenses?

Just got off of the phone with my Dr.'s office asking about anything I needed prior to the DO. According to them I need:

Japanese encephalitis vaccine $600
Rabies vaccine: $500

not billable through insurance.

Anyone know if this is accurate before I shell $$$?

I have had a rabies vaccine but not specifically related to living in Japan over the last 20 years. Japanese encephalitis-NO vaccine and I lived in semi-rural Japan (now in Tokyo).

There was an outbreak of Dengue in Tokyo area parks last year which I find more concerning.

Been in tropical Japan for 12 years and have had JEV (annual booster) only once. I'd not worry about it. As for rabies no worry.

Not necessary for a short stay (less than a month) in otherwise generally healthy people. Save your money.

Despite global warming and all that it's highly unlikely you will find mosquitos in Fukuoka in early April. There were just 9 cases of Japanese encephalitis reported in Japan in 2013. There have been no reports of anyone contracting rabies in Japan in recent years.

I had such a great time last year that I'm so tempted to book a flight and do it again. Costco run Beckoa?

I suspect the father is worried his sons might refuse to eat frozen sushi from Aldi in future.

Left my Doctor's office a couple of hours ago and he said the same. If it were an extended stay, I should get the JEV, but not for a short trip like this.

Which area are all the events planning to take place? Last year, almost everyone stayed around Shinjuku so it made it convenient to walk everywhere. Is there a common location again this year?

Still looking at flights... Don't have the luxury of redeeming for a J reward this time around $1600 CDN via AC or $1200 on CE
