Japan Do #3 - The FUK Do - April 3-5, 2015
Either the thread title dragged you here :D, or you were looking forward to this thread going up since the 2nd Japan Do wrapped up a couple of weeks ago. Either ways, welcome, take a seat and strap your seat belts.
Third edition of Japan-Do gets out of Tokyo and heads westwards, to Fukuoka, home to the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks; and will be held, as in the past, over the Easter long weekend (for those who celebrate!). Here's a short introductory video to Fukuoka - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVpZ...ature=youtu.be The ‘Do will loosely follow the following structure 2nd April | Thursday - Pre Drinks 3rd April | Friday - Day Event 3rd April | Friday - Main ‘Do Dinner 4th April | Saturday - Day Trip (Potentially to Nagasaki) 4th April | Saturday - Dinner / Pub Crawl 5th April | Sunday - Another day trip / Quasi - Organized lunch for those still around / early departures start departing I also want to gauge interest in a post-do; perhaps in Seoul (as I’ve always wanted to go to the DMZ!) but open to other ideas. If there’s sufficient interest, I’ll push this further. NewbieRunner will set up a Wiki for this thread so those interested can put themselves down on the list as interested, meanwhile, feel free to post replies. We’ll collect other information (emails/names/arrivals/departures/hotels) closer to the ‘do via a registration form. |

Interesting choice of DO name.

I'll just make the observation that these dates, right before U.S. income-tax returns are due, may cause problems for some people -- either because they have to file their own returns or because they are involved in filing other people's returns. I'm not suggesting changing the dates, just observing that they could be problematic. They may keep me away.

However, as mentioned to several people during Japan Do #2, I plan to organise a post-do trip to an onsen about 2-3 hours from Fukuoka with a visit to an active volcano. Am I tempting fate? :p I can't promise good weather but onsens and volcanoes tend to be found close together. I was born near Kumamoto and have visited the area a couple of times but have never been to this onsen. It sounds very different from Hakone and not as accessible, but it seems like a popular place and an early reservation/confirmation will be necessary. I'll do some more research and post further information. The trip is likely to be for Sunday-Monday and in addtion to the volcano and onsen we should be able to stop in Kumamoto to visit the castle either on the way there or on the way back. |

As with this (last?) year, I plan to attend this do and shall once again be volunteered by SQ421 to assist with organising.

Quite understandable since Haneda is the main hub for the domestic network.
SQ, TG and CX fly direct to FUK, so I will likely use one of them and avoid Tokyo entirely on this trip, unless I find a work reason to be in TYO ;) serfty - you could fly Jetstar from NRT :p |
