Presume you're on Mon 26th QF1940 AYQ/ASP, connecting to QF722 ASP/ADL. So we get a couple of flights together this year (also Bundy Bear and gvdIAD I know are on the same flights).

Merry Xmas to the Fredd's.

I saw the $191 Red deal on Qantas from SYD-ASP. Any chance it will go lower? Its not much less than what it would cost me to earn/buy the miles i spent on my award ticket

Changing "status" to Bronze. ASP just isn't going to happen for me.

I am holding two rooms at the DoubleTree Hilton (1 king, 1 twin) which people are welcome to use, I'll just email the hotel that an "associate" will be checking in before me, has worked elsewhere in the past.

I see Accor is having a sale through January 16 which has Ayers Rock rates as low as $A204. Is that something we should be looking at or is there a possibility the group rate would be equal to that or lower? Sale advertises 40% off rack rates.

I've already used this sale to book one night in Brisbane at the end of my trip in June. Doesn't work in Sydney on my dates due to a large Rotary convention.

I know I am all booked, but I need to bump back to Silver at this stage - Something has come up around the same dates that I can't miss

Talking

Well it seems my best intentions got ahead of me. Despite some interesting routings developed and securing F space on QF, the juggernaut known as work intercedes .

Bronze am I.

I am surprised there hasn't been further discussion on the Accor sale. Maybe the non-refundability has repelled interest? http://bit.ly/PrivateSalesLCAH

Anyway, the sale was originally due to close on the 16th, but was extended to the 21st (today, but which time zone?).

I booked a one-bedroom apartment for the night of the 25th at Emu Walk for US$184 all-in (non-sale rate is US$308).

If anyone wants to go halfsies, I'd be more than happy taking the couch. Lemme know.

:-: Well, Mwenenzi, I suppose you can change my status to Platinum now!

I was waiting for the rumoured group rate, but that hasn't come through yet...

Updates please? Is it in the pipeline or should we book on the sale???

I wonder if all the discussion about this event has moved to the Australian web site. Surprised that a week after I asked my question no one has been along to answer it. I have not booked anything hoping we have a better negotiated rate.

All discussion I am aware of is here.

The problem is we only have the admonishment of post #81.

Leaves many between a rock and a hard place - personally, since I am solo this time I would be quite happy to share.

e.g. A twin at the "Desert Gardens" is available for $210 - unrestricted rate is showing $350.

2 B'room Apartment for $264 at Emu Walk Apartments - unrestricted showing $440.

Been overseas in Ghana, West Africa so little email contact!

A member here said he had an Accor contact but have heard nothing more on that.

I'd dropped them a line now in Uluru, and feel sure they'll at least match or better the 40% off sale rate, and ideally make it cancellable if needed. Sale rates were 'use it or lose it' rates! Dangerous. Stuff happens.

Mwenenzei has done his spread sheet magic in recent days and has a projected attendee number.

I'll pass on what I hear.

Virgin Australia Saver fares AYQ/SYD VA1628 1345/1720

Virgin Australia have Saver fares available for both Mon 26 May & Tue 27 May Ayers Rock (AYQ) to Sydney (SYD) for AUD269.00 & AUD209.00 respectively.

The Saver fare books into "Q" class & is non-refundable however if you do cancel the fare with at least 24 hours notice there is an AUD80.00 fee but the balance of the fare would be transferred into a credit shell which is valid for one year from the date of cancellation of the flight.

The fare includes one piece of checked luggage up to 23 kilos (approx 50 pounds).

The above fares are considerably less than the group quote I received through a wholesaler.

I have contacted VA direct for a quote also to see how that would compare to the above Saver fare.

That stinks, after you found the ellusive QF F awards booked less than 360 days in advance
