I think I'll be in town that day, but wouldn't be available for lunch. An evening DO would work for me.

I'm easy -- whatever the majority wants will be okay with me.

True enough, and they might well offer better prices...BUT...they are not FAO Schwarz, where my mother and grandmother brought me when I was a child -- and where I brought my nieces 40 years ago when they were children.

This is not about the toy. It is not even about the child (although I would never let her know), it is about ME...ME...ME (and catching up on some memories).

BTW, a relative of this girl who saw my post corrected me on one point. She is not a Methodist as I thought but a Southern Baptist. I wonder if it is kosher to buy a Southern Baptist a Hannuka present from a Yankee store.

(Actually, it will be a Christmas present for her as I am flying to LAS on Dec 14 and ATL on Dec 22 -- which will be my first chance to give her the toy. I am going to have to look for something which is not too large to fit in my suitcase, not too breakable, and not attractive enough to attract the sticky fingers of the TSA or JFK baggage handlers.)

Wonderful! You are our fourth "definite". One more and this will become an official Do.

Do you have any recommendations for a kosher Deli? (Not a kosher-style Deli like Katz.)

If you're willing to head East, there's the 2nd Avenue Deli between Park and 3rd. Kosher and good. Really, really good.

I checked its website and the location is fine:

We are conveniently located at 162 East 33rd Street between Lexington Avenue and 3rd Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. We are located right by the 6 train (33rd Street Station).
If we remain a small group, there will be no problem. If we wind up with a large one, would you be willing to go there a week or two in advance and make reservations for us?

I'll throw my hat in this early so you can call it a do.

Way too early to be 100% sure, but I should be around.

I sure hope that is a typo and it is only your hat you are throwing in, but it would be great to have you there.

I am going to update the first post, ask a mod to change the title, and to make our kosher Do truly kosher by putting us on the list.

Will you permit this Gentile in your presence?

Can't confirm quite yet, but I am intrigued by the prospect of a close-up study of--well, whatever goes on amongst--well, whoever all shows up.

Of course we will. The simple fact that I am going to be there is proof that we have no standards at all.
