2012 DTW / Ann Arbor Art Fair Do (July 20-22)
Following a 7-year tradition, we're working on putting together the eighth annual event.
Please go to here for some history of the event: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16235252-post1.html We've batted this around on last year's thread already and it looks like we've got enough interest to keep this going again this year. In general, this event is about providing an opportunity for miles and points eccentrics and their friends and s.o. to have a fun time attending the Art Fair and having meals together along with some time over the weekend to discuss miles and points tips which has always been very a profitable and fun time. I'm going to open this up to first canvas others to voice their opinion as to what they would like to do and what times during the week of the Art fair they would like come to Ann Arbor and want to participate in some Do events. This event is open to all and we will organize events over the weekend depending on the level of interest. Let's at least do Saturday Drinks and Dinner for those coming for the weekend and a Sunday breakfast / brunch. Thanks to MidTierStatus, we already have the Ann Arbor downtown library free space room confirmed for Saturday Jul 21 from 1 - 5:30 for a time to get together to share travel / miles / points tips. Given the rumblings about more drastic changes to airline frequent flyer programs that many of us may hate, we may really need each's ideas more than ever to get good travel value going forward. So post away with your thoughts! |

Coo1!
BTW, to those who need a place to stay for the weekend, the best current hotel deal I see for AA for our dates for a place that has good reviews is Microtel in Ann Arbor at $65 a night. If you need a car rental, rates are cheap right now. Last year they kept rising as we got closer to July. |
Glad to see the tradition continues!^
I'd like to attend but as of yet am unable to commit. However, just a reminder that for those in/around NYC if airfares spike, there's always the possibility of an Avios redemption! LGA-DTW is usually 9000 Avios r/t but with the current AMEX 50% transfer promo, that ticket is now only 6000 (AMEX to Avios) :D |

Just a bump to remind folks to post their availability and suggestions for places to eat, things to talk about, other folks to invite, etc.
A good topic to talk about I think: How do we respond to the changing landscape for air travel and frequent flyer programs? I can make a case that there may be a lot more value in hotel frequent guest programs going forward than there will be for most airline frequent flyer programs. What do you think? |
Not sure a lot of people know about it, but for those flying in if you do not want to rent a car there is another option. The Michigan Flyer bus service from DTW is cheap and takes you to the Briarwood Maill area or downtown AA.

I am in the maybe zone due to schedule fluctuations. I highly recommend this amazing event as I have learned Mega millions at this event. I certainly hope I can make it this year. Btw, I really liked the school lunchroom of a few years ago. The bring your own internet was something else.

http://www.michiganflyer.com It will be $12 normally. http://detroit2020.com/2012/03/30/ne...metro-airport/ Go to MyAirRide.com. And the best part for locals is parking is $2 for up to 2 weeks! I will be getting on a train the Saturday morning of the DO, so I will be unable to attend. And if you are a senior citizen, $11 R/T. I'm implying nothing about the age of some of our past attendees. |
Sadly I don't think I can make it this year :(
BTW, Hertz rentals ex DTW (even one ways) are 24-28$/weekend days for compacts or intermediates with the AAA CDP 116 ;) |

Trying to figure out when I should book, it's tough to figure out what the optimum fare will be these days. |
