Are there many runners on FT? Enough for a runners DO?

So, I'm curious if there are alot of runners out in FT land. Occassionally I will bump into a few here and there based on their posts, but it doesn't seem to me that there are ALOT of runners on FT.

I'm going to be running my 1st marathon tomorrow (Richmond Marathon). The training experience has made me think that I would really like to do some half marathons (or maybe full marathons) in other parts of the country or even international (Europe or maybe even Asia). Are there enough runners on FT to even potentially put a DO together centered around a really good marathon/half marathon in a cool city (be it in the US or overseas)?

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this. Even if it turns out that a runners DO is a long shot, it will be cool to find out who among the FT ranks do the same type of crazy stuff I have been doing for the past 5 months to train for tomorrow . Thanks.

Not a runner, as you may have guessed since we've met, but I just wanted to wish you well for your run tomorrow!

Done 9 marathons, including Boston. I ran the Comrades marathon last May in South Africa. That should be the ultimate FT DO. www.comrades.com

I'll be running Philadelphia next weekend. Good luck on your run on Sunday.

8, including two Bostons (both official). However, since my last was nearly a quarter-century ago and I was well into the master's category at the time, I doubt there will be many more in my future.

Best wishes for Richmond, and let us know how you did. I'd love to participate in a short fun-run that's part of another Do, but I don't think I'd fly anywhere for a Do that's centered on a marathon these days.

Wow, that's quite a running resume Pat! I'm part of a training team, and Bart Yasso came to our pre-race pasta party on Thursday night. He talked about always wanting to run Comrades and finally doing so recently (last year I think). Since that's an ultra-marathon (54 miles, or was it 56?), that's way out of my league (for now ).

Thanks for all of the support. I'll let everyone know how I do tomorrow. I'd still like to think that there may be a runners DO to put together. South Africa sounds great to me, but we may need to start with something shorter (distance to run, not to travel) .

Until now I did only half-marathons. Don't have the time for the training you need to run a full marathon.

The Cologne half-marathon is a lot of fun. Cologne would also be a good DO Location. Easy to reach from all around the world via FRA. All major hotel chains have hotels in Cologne and it offers a lot of culture and nightlife.

The next half-marathon and marathon one would be October 2011.

By the way anyone into hashing?

I'm sure there are both "runners" and "runners" on F/T with me being the other kind of runner (tho in a previous life, it was hurdles and the anchor leg of the 4x440 relay). Here's to cool (not cold) and slightly overcast skies for your marathon, scubaflyer ^.

Over the past few years I've tried to run 2-3 half-marathons a year, and use them to get around to other cities. Never had a desire to do a full, but enjoy going to runs that have both a full and a half going on.

Good luck today!

I have run 30 marathons. My running career has helped me get to CO Elite Gold status. I have run marathons in the following cities.

Honolulu (2)
San Francisco 4)
Los Angeles (2)
Las Vegas (1)
Miami (2)
New York City (1)
Baltimore
Cincinnati (2)
Columbus (2)
Dayton (1)
Cleveland (3)
Atlanta (2)
Vermont
San Diego (2)
Akron
Ft Lauderdale
Long Beach
Malibu

I am not a fast runner, I jog when I get tired. marathon times 5:00-6:00. It has been a great way to see many of the cities I have been to.

Favorite marathon, New York City last year. They take 40,000 plus runners
but 3 times this amount apply. Half the runners are outside of the USA. I
was only able to get into NYC marathon as they have 3 strikes and your in meaning if you apply 3 times and do not make the lottery you are in the next year. I did not make it in this year. Boston is the only marathon where youhave to qualify with a certain time from running another race.

Good luck in Philly on Sunday.

How about something like the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon, on May 1, 2011 for a DO?

It's a very scenic course through several parks including the Lehigh Parkway, which Runners World magazine has listed as one of the top 100 places to run in the country and it includes a stadium finish.

I'm a newbie runner. Just ran my first 10k this past weekend and will soon start training for my first half-marathon in the spring.
