Aviation related dissertation survey
Fellow aviation enthusiasts,
I need your help! I’m currently writing my Master dissertation about leisure travelers’ choice of airline and factors that influence our choices when we buy an airline ticket. In order to gather information I have put together a questionnaire I would kindly ask you to take part in. There are 21 questions in total and it will take less than 5 minutes to complete it.
It is a non-commercial survey, all answers will be kept anonymous and only be used for the objectives of this dissertation.
Could you please participate? The link to the survey is: http://www.kwiksurveys.com?s=KLJJFK_87d72e90
Thanks a lot for all help!
Kind regards,
Kris
PS! I am not gathering IP addresses! It is completely anonymous. Cheers!

Randy's totally correct!
I completed it. I loved the "7. Have you flown with this airline in the past?" one as I've flown 58k mi this year thusfar, haha.
Best of luck with your research and your studies. I love the topic
.
Post the results here to keep things all in 1 place. I know often the results are only released to those on a certain email list.

I've also completed it. I wonder, though, if people who post on FT have a different view than the general public on some of these questions. Of course, maybe that's the whole point!

Cheers guys for contributing!
I have a hunch saying that FT readers generally fly more than non FT readers, thus pay attention to other factors. E.g., experienced travelers are less concerned with recommendations from friends/family etc. as some inexperienced travelers probably value.
I’m looking forward to analyzing the results, although I conjecture that price related attributes dominate the answers.
130 answers so far, the survey is still open and I’m aiming at 200 responses. Please help me get there!
Thanks again,
Kris

Maybe Randy could use an excerpt of your paper in a future edition of Inside Flyer.

Good survey ^ and good luck for your dissertation
one remark:
I think the question in # 15 is related to codeshares:
It might be an advantage to use the term "codeshare".
And sometimes, it was a little bit difficutl to focus on one answer, as more than one answers apply ....
Indeed, the fare is important, but I tend to use the cheapest fare an airline of "my alliance" offers on the route I want to fly, regardless of travel time and number of connections

It is OK that another airline fly the route instead of the airline I booked with (e.g., Iberia operates the route of BA, or United instead of Lufthansa, etc.)

For the general public, yes. On FT, a lot of people will pay more to fly their airline. I know I will, for many tangible and intangible reasons. So I'll be interested to see how people respond. I hope once you close the survey you'll come back and post some results.
Maybe Randy could use an excerpt of your paper in a future edition of Inside Flyer.

I will make sure that Randy and the rest of you who are interested in the results of the survey get them...in the end of August, at latest

I'm absolutely certain you're correct, though I don't know that's a bad thing from the standpoint of research. For example, "Best Airline" surveys tend to be skewed towards casual flier experience -- UA is universally despised and, indeed, I would despise it IF I didn't have status. As I do, I find I'm treated better than I would be with by other airlines with the equivalent status. Of course, as a frequent flier, I couldn't care less about a casual flier's opinion of an airline.

Regarding Q15: That is correct; the essence of the quesiton is indeed codeshare. I was deliberately avoiding the term codeshare because I’m not convinced that everyone knows the meaning of the word. Therefore, to ensure that also "non aviation enthusiasts" understood what I was asking about I used an example instead.
However, your point is valid. If I were to write the question again I would probably use both the term and the example.
With respect to your approach to purchase of airline tickets, I must say do the same!
Thanks for the feedback and your participation!

Just did the survey (one of the better surveys of this type I've seen--you've definitely done your homework and familiarized yourself with the airline world). I, too, am interested in the results! Please post when you can.

160 answers now, I will at least leave the survey open for the weekend. If the questionnaire reaches around 200 responses by Monday I will most likely commence the analysis of the data.
Untill then, please join in!
