A work colleague is leaving for PRG tomorrow (she thinks it's less expensive than Euro-based countries - I thought it was the same or more expensive
), and I told her I'd put adventureadam's input on all things PRG-related as it is a good resource. She's also going on to VIE now that she knows it's not that far away by train, and I'm including my VIE document.
See everyone in 5 weeks!
Cheers.

In some areas it's cheaper, in some areas it's more expensive. IF you compare to cities with 1.3 million or whatever it is, in Western Europe, it's probably a cheaper place to live. OTOH, it is heavily touristed, so establishments that cater to tourists know that they can get a large premium..

I am staying at the Hilton Prague (which might encourage you to go to the Old Town instead).
On the other hand, if you are there on any evening between the 9th and the 14th, when there is Do function scheduled, my invitation to buy you dinner at the restaurant of your choice* still stands.
*Excludes restaurants which only serve veggies and/or creepy-crawly things from the sea.

Holiday Inn Congress Centre is on the PointBreaks list for 5k per night. It is far south of DO Central, but if you are on a tight budget and don't mind the commute, it's a great deal. Tripadvisor

For starters, you'd have to realise, rather than realize, that serfty is Australian, and work up from there. As I'll be bringing 3 other Australians with me, consider it good practice

Orginally posted on the DL Forum by me in Nov 2003:
I tasted it one time and after having my stomach pumped did a little research on its history:
1. In 1922, Vegemite was invented by a mad Australian scientist who was hoping to earn his place in a horror movie. Screen standards were not as low then as they are today and Hollywood instead went with Frankenstein, feeling that it was less frightening.
2. In 1927, Australia -- which was then located off the coast of France -- was ordered to move Down Under by the League of Nations. This was the result of fears that not only would Vegemite destroy European palates but that it would drive the cows in England mad.
3. In 1928, New Zealand formally protested Vegemite-laden Australia's new location in a parliamentary resolution which read, "Well, there goes the neighborhood!"
4. In the 1950's, Rolf Harris sung a heart-warming ballad titled, "Tie Me Kangeroo Down, Sport." Apparently, only when the 'roo was properly trussed could he be forced to swallow Vegemite.
5. In 1986, Australia's classic Shakespearian actor, Paul Hogan, was signed by his agent to do a Vegemite commercial. When Hogan learned that the script called for him to actually eat the stuff, he went underground, changed his name to "Crocodile Dundee" and escaped to America where he was granted political asylum. He spent the rest of his life in the Florida swamps fighting 'gators, which he explained was much more enjoyable than munching Vegemite sandwiches.
6. In 2003, Kraft -- which produces both Vegemite and Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese -- tried to pressure Delta Airlines into serving it in F/C on all domestic flights. The City of Brotherly Love (no, NOT San Francisco) was so incensed by Kraft's act of aviation terrorism that it immediately invited Southwest Airlines to fly into PHL, ignoring the fact that Philadelphia is neither south nor west.
Delta CEO Leo Mullen bravely stood up to this international giant and immediately ordered the cessation of all (free) meals.

The Do Calendar
This is just a small overview as of now – there's a lot to be added. All times are tentative. If some of you intend to arrive one day earlier or depart one day later, the calendar can be adjusted.
Friday, June 10th 2011
02:00 pm servus's Pre-Welcome Birthday Party – venue TBD
By coincidence this DO starts right on my birthday, so I'm delighted to invite all Early Birds for a drink or two. As this comes out of my own pocket, the venue will be released to confirmed attendees only.
07:00 pm Welcome Dinner – venue TBD
09:00 pm Bar Hopping
Prague is famous for its bars. Beer is flowing all night long, so there should be enough time to sample one Budweiser, one Pilsner Urquell or another one brewed by one of Pragues oldest breweries!
Saturday, June 11th 2011
10:00 am Sightseeing Tour + Vltava River Cruise
I'm working on an English guided tour which also includes a river cruise on the Vltava River and a visit to one of Pragues popular Cafs. I know, the cruise part is very touristy but if you have never been to Prague before, it's a nice thing to do. As I always keep an eye on the cost, I'll try to find the best deal for us. However this is probably mostly depending on how many of us will attend and what will be included but it won't cost more than 1,000 CZK / ~ $50. You will see the Jewish Quarter, Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, "Ginger & Fred" aka the Dancing House and of course the Prague Castle.
08:00 pm Offical Dinner – venue TBD
Sunday, June 12th 2011
11:00 am Farewell Brunch – venue TBD ...
