You can convert AAdvantage MC to AAdvantage Visa
For those of you who were forced out, I just got off the phone with Citibank customer service for AAdvantage cardholders. I asked if I could convert my MC account to Visa and they didn't give me a hard time. The only benefit I was going to lose was the first 6 months free. I chose not to switch until after the first 6 months is up.

Well, some of us were forced into converting to MasterCard by Citibank.
There is also the matter of Visa receiving wider acceptance, in terms of merchants worldwide, than MasterCard. Though I will not argue either for or against this point-of-view.
It all boils down to benefits and what you get from Visa versus MasterCard. There are folks on this board who might find the information useful. And for those of us who have preferences, and who would like our AAdvantage Visa cards back, this represents a nice "unadvertised" opportunity.
And that's, um, why.

Then what is the difference, besides International acceptance between the Visa and MC version. If the previous poster was right and Visa gives 2 miles per $ spent, than this is huge. Someone answer.

2 miles for every dollar spent on AA
Note, I have no knowledge of whether the AAdvantage Visa card gets you double miles on AA purchases, but I don't think anyone here was claiming that you get double miles on all purchases.
Also, regarding someone else's comments that Visa is more widely accepted, I do not think that is true. While there certainly are places worldwide (not really in the US) that take Visa and not MC, I have found a lot more MC-only places (especially in Europe).

I have had an AA Citi VISA card since 1997. Citibank offered to switch to Mastercard, but never "forced" it. The cards earns one mile per dollar, nothing extra on purchases from AA. (I also have an AA Citi VISA Business Card and it also earns one mile per dollar.)
