I have both AA Visa and AA MC. They both give 1 mile per $1. I have been at a few places that only accepted Visa - a place in Canada comes to mind - anyway, I was glad I have a Visa card. Most of the time it makes no difference, but there might be promos that come from Visa, or MC.

Visa extends warranties on eligible items where the manufacturer's warranty is up to 3 years. MasterCard extends warranties only where the manufacturer's warranty is no greater than 1 year.

Visa allows filing and checking status of warranty claims online. Also, Visa gives the option of registering purchases (they keep the relevant documentation on file in case of a future claim).

I have had an AAdvantage Visa since 2002, after they technically "stopped offering" it. I have always preferred Visa because of international acceptance. When I signed up, they said that when it expired, I would be switched to a Master Card. They just renewed it again, with no attempt to move me over to Visa. Admittedly when I signed up, I had to forfeit some miles (I think it was 10K for Visa, 12.5K for MC or something like that). I definitely don't receive 2 miles for AA purchases.

I had to tell them that I didn't want to change to MC as I already had enough MC's. I just received a notice that the fee was going up to $100 because of whatever extra it takes to service this account. Since my fee is waived anyway it doesn't affect me, but I think it is a way for Citibank to discourage the Visa cards? Has anyone else received the increase in fee notice?

There are quite a few places in Canada where only Visa is accepted.
