Credit appears on the billing statement for the month the fee/charge hit. It is not an instantaneous credit that you'll see in the account online, it only applies at close of statement.
The year your purchase counts against is based on the statement date, not date of purchase. Tickets purchased late in the year, especially in December, will almost certainly count against the benefit in the following calendar year. Do not wait until the end of the calendar year to use your credits!

Any charge submitted by Delta Airlines will be reimbursed. However, not all Delta giftcard purchases are billed by Delta Airlines. Read the wikipost at the top of this thread in the American Express forum, (summary: do NOT order from a mobile device):

Thanks for the link; I will avoid a mobile purchase! I had read the wiki on this one but was not sure I could do the full $250 because the Amex PRG has to be $50 per or less. However, the extra info on mobile purchases wasn't something I had factored into my plan.^

New data point - purchased a ticket ($260) directly with Air Madagascar's website, $250 credit hit my citi statement.

Guys - quick question. When exactly does that $250 airline credit reset? Any way to verify that on Citi's website like we can on CSR? Thanks!

I’ve noticed that CX or Asia Miles is not on the wiki. I’ve transferred TY points to Asia Miles and just made an award booking using Asia Miles on BA metal, so lots of fuel surcharges and taxes. The charge is pending but currently as “Asia Miles Limited Hong Kong”. No mention of Cathay Pacific as the marketing airline or any ticket number in the charge. My guess is that this willl not be reimbursed because it doesn’t appear as an airline charge, altough I’ll update later for future readers. This will be ironic, given that the charge is for a ticket and Asia Miles is a TY transfer partner.

My annual fee has come due and I was hoping to get a retention offer with Citi. They are not giving out many these day I here. I just realized that we have not used the airline credit this year. If I go in and use it, how long do I have to cancel the card? How does this work with the Citi Prestige? Thanks for any information. I also have 53,000 points I need to use or move.

I’m unsure how to edit the Wiki, but a new data point: Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles reward ticket taxes/fees do work for the $250 air credit.

Does the airline credit need to be used within the calendar year or card membership year?
I believe my membership year starts in middle of the year but not sure when does the credit expire. Wouldn't like to lose out on the credit!
Thanks.
Edit - Read the wiki. Crap.
By when should I book the tickets to be on safe side?

Does anyone know if using the Prestige to pay for travel via Citi's Thank You travel portal works with the credit? Example: Buying a ticket partially with Thank You pts + $250 charged to the Prestige.

Not reimbursed automatically, because the current benefit requires the purchase to be from an airline, and this purchase will be from a travel agency. You may be able to get reimbursement approved on an exception basis. This problem may disappear in 2019 when the benefit terms change.

How long does it take for the credit to post after the transaction posts? Do they do it with sweeps every few days, immediately when the transaction posts, or when that transaction's statement closes?
