FAQ
1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT you’ll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- it’s from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.
2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business
While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.
3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please don’t call Citi for the passes, because you’ll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.
4. Can I apply for a business card if I don’t have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.
5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, you’ll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what won’t, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)
6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)
7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
There’s a very good chance that it’ll be coded as a cash advance.
It’s recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)
8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.
9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

So the question for AAdvantage accumulation is how to slip a second AAdvantage app in there in that 60 day period?
The first thing to examine is why Citi is declining them now. Reports are because they're the same product. Thus my question, why not apply for two different AAdvantage earning products like the Gold and Platinum?
If you eliminate Citi's decline reason, same product, you'll either get declined on a different reason or approved. All of this contingent on credit worthiness of course.
I think that is the first experiment: day 1 apply for a Platinum product, day 2 apply for a Gold product. See what happens.
* complies with apparent different product rule
* complies with 2 in 60 day rule
* complies with apparent 'not same day' rule
*** WILL produce two bureau pulls. (have to work on that if this works)

Anyway, I figured applying for the Amex Platinum Select (post 1, link 1) and the Gold World master card (post 4820) on the same day was worth a shot since hopefully the credit pulls would be combined.
I applied for the Select Amex first and was instantly approved. Ten minutes later, I applied for the Gold card and was also instantly approved. I'll try for the business card in 65 days.

I'm not sure why you recommend applying on different days as the denials have been for having the same product.

Yes, I applied for both AA cards tonight and got approved for both. So I assume the Platinum Select and the Gold are considered separate products. I also assume based on recent reports if I had applied for 2 Platinums Selects, I would have been denied for one.

My husband downgraded his Amex Select that was opened 2+ years ago. I was thinking of having him apply for the Visa and the MC so there won't be any chance of denial due to having the Amex product already.
Thoughts?

People are getting approved-- that's the easy part
But are people really getting the miles for these expired deals? I can see that lots of people are getting approved. I too will get approved. I just care about the miles like all of us kind souls.
Thanks for the mile insight.

"new accounts" vs "first-time cardholder" language is VERY important!!!
]Most of the best offers have irst-time cardholder" language. That language means your 2nd personal AA card won't be approved until (12 to) 18 to 26 months after the previous one was approved unless (in the past) you applied for 2 of them on the same day. (Except this trick of applying for 2 on the same day no longer works, and applying for 2 on different days never worked.)
Cards with "new acounts" language do not have this restriction. You can apply for those much more often than the "first-time cardholder" language cards.
However, the "new accounts" cards in the past few years have been few and far between. So please explain exactly which links you found "new accounts" language on. (Because the assumption should be that any link for a good offer these days has "first-time cardholder" lanuage, unless you verify that that particular link has only "new account" language.)
... And are all these reports of someone getting approved for a Visa and an MC because the MC has "new account" language?
By the way, if one card has "first-time cardholder" language and the other card has "new account" language, you need to apply for the "first-time cardholder" language card first, and the "new account" lanauge card second. (It won't work vice versa!)
(And in that special case of "new account" language, with the new rules of supposedly "can't get 2 of the same card", it would presumably be better to wait, no just until the next day, but until days or weeks or even a month or two later, to get the "new account" card, after you get the "first-time cardholder" card.)

I am new to this thread. Everyone is applying for so many cards with 3K spend in first 4 months. How is everyone speding $6K-9K in 4 months. I searched and found some information on the internet like amazon payments and couple of other options but nothing seems good enough for me to spend $6K in 4 mos. I applied for personal 2 weeks ago and business on Thursday. Business got approved as well. Got personal one for wife as well. Now how to do I spend $9000 in 4 months. I applied for US aiways 40000 bonus mile card as well with $89 fee. It will help adding them to AMerican after the merger.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, wsu. Many of us are also unable to spend that much in such a short period of time. Some of the ways to meet minimum spends, however, include pre-paying utility bills (cable, phone, gas, and so on) and buying grocery store gift cards (for stores where you will be shopping anyway).

For those of you who cares about the new accounts vs the first-time cardholder language, I'll speak from my experience and let you know that it makes no difference. In the past, I applied for one with new accounts language and still got denied for the first-time cardholder clause. YMMV, but I wouldn't spend too much time over looking for an application with that detail.
The thing that seemed to have made a difference is the time between applying.
Good luck!
