You'll be fine, but you won't be able to get a visa at the airport (need to go to a PRC consulate).

The TA that did the visa for us didn't consider a 2-year for me a possibility at this time, though.
Has there been any report of a 2-year visa with multi entries? If so, under what conditions would it be granted?

I've applied for 3 two-year F visas this year (for me and two other people) with really solid invitation letters and copies of previous 2-year visas, and all came back as 1-year visas. I think ethnic Chinese are still getting 2-year L visas though.

My wife (Chinese-born) still holds a 2-year. The place that got her that visa no longer is in the visa business at all, the place they referred us to doesn't think she can get a new one for our next visit.

You might want to call pandavisa.com. They use the NYC consulate and claim that this is still possible.

moondog & pechetl,
Thanks for the heads up.
Since I go to China at least once a year, thought I would apply a visa with 2-year & multiple entries. Guess that's just wishful thinking on my part.
Appreciate the info just the same.
When I am in HK, see if I can find some TA who would be able to make it happen

The visa agents I know in China and HK have NEVER been able to procure 2-year visas. Assuming you're a US citizen, you'll have much better luck stateside (including a chance at the 2-year deal; they do still take applications for them).

Ain't going to happen. Assuming you are a US citizen without a HKID/residence card, best you might be able to find right now is 6 months and that probably not multi-entry, probably double entry with 60 days each. Cost will be same as the 12-month multi you can get in the USA. It's pretty obvious what is the better deal.

Last year I applied for 1 entry and was offered 1 year visa with multiple entries (30 days max each time).
Am US citizen. I think the Chinese gov't has no incentive to offer multiple year visa to US citizens b/c of the fees that they collect.

Your two sentences sort of contradict each other. And as for Chinese government non-incentive, you are incorrect. The granting of 12 month multi-entry tourist and business visas to US citizens (when applying in the USA) is covered by special treaty between the Chinese and US governments. It now seems to be the standard visa being given out to US citizens in the USA who ask for it (and sometimes even if you don't ask for it), the only variable is duration of stay limits. I currently have one for 90 days per stay, moondog above has one for 120 days per stay, 60 days per stay is also common. I'd say right now it's more UNcommon to only receive a single entry visa or 30 days per entry, unless that's what you requested.

All bets are off if you are a US citizen applying OUTside the USA, as treaty provisions don't apply and you are at the mercy of whatever the local Consulate is giving out at that moment.

How about a 2 year, multi-entry L for ABC with 120 day stays from SFO consulate? Any reports of this in the wild? Can probably find some shanzhai relatives.

Haven't heard of any recently. I do know of ABC's over age 60 who own property in China and recently got 1 year multi-entry L with no restrictions from SFO, but that's only repeatable by a small subset of FT'ers. Why don't you go for it and try to get the 2-year--not much downside to trying, right?

My wife currently holds a 2 yr/90 day L, I believe from SFO. She's Chinese-born, though. Being married to her doesn't do me any good, I currently have a 1 yr/60 day.
