Business or pleasure?
Pudong is closer to the PVG airport, and there is Maglev train service from PVG to Pudong downtown.
Puxi is the older, more centralized part of town. Most sightseeing and tourist attractions are in Puxi.
Getting between Pudong and Puxi can be hectic in rush hour traffic. If you must, use the subway.

LOL....you're from Singapore and asking who flies out to Shanghai

I recall a big China Southern sign on a building....I'm sure they among other local China airlines have non-stops.
I suspect calling a 'local' travel agent should get you a good deal.

Let me concur with the previous view, for tourism, Puxi is the better location.
Also, I wouldn't say that the maglev goes to Pudong 'downtown.' First of all, I'm not knowledgable enough to know where Pudong downtown is -- I wasn't aware there was one. Second, the maglev ends WAY out of town regardless. Still, it's worth taking one way regardless of where you are staying, just to say you did.
I've noticed that scammers in Shanghai are as expert at ripping off Chinese from Singapore as they are at ripping off westerners, by the way, so watch out for all the usual stuff.

Puxi - definitely. As an SPG ho I'm not going to be objective when I tell you that I had an awesome time at the Westin Bund Centre. I'm sure others will be more objective but you generally can't go wrong around the Bund.
