LOL - That's a real gem.

"Moody boarded the flight and asked, 'Where is the gay section?' He and three friends then proceeded to the back of the plane and began drinking heavily from a liquor supply in Moody's carry-on luggage, witnesses told air marshals."

My immediate reaction:
Oh, noes! LIQUIDS in his CARRY-ON!!1!!11!~one!!111!!!!!!

How'd he fit enough in a quart sized ziploc to get three people drunk?

Also,

"he declared bankruptcy in 1992. He owns a $685,000 home in Broward County."

Wha?

peace,
~Ben~

Not that it's really material to the case. I don't know what realty's like down there, but in some parts of the country that could just be a 2 bedroom townhome.

Several years ago, a local lawyer (since suspended from the practice of law) got thrown out of a topless bar because he wanted to negotiate the price of lap dances post dance. His dignity (and state of drunkeness) demanded that he re-enter the bar for an apology whereupon he was again pummeled by the bouncer and thrown out a second time. After sober reflection, he decided that a lawsuit for assault was warranted which, of course, resulted in the entire embarassing episode hitting the local papers. Lawyers and alcohol can indeed result in a perfect storm of stupidity.

Geez, what a moron...but some questions...

1) how did the get that much liquor past the sharp-as-tacks TSA screeners?

2) why are air marshals involved in this fiasco at all? Nothing this idiot did onboard would be grounds for them to expose themselves, intervene or be involved in any way

3) if the idiot was acting like this, why didn't the crew restrain him to the seat with the plastic cuffs, or why didn't the Capt. divert to have him removed? JAX was a scheduled stop, not a diversion according to the article...if the Capt. was so upset at this behavior, he should have ordered the pax restrained and then diverted, if necessary...otherwise I have little sympathy for Capt. Southwest's bellyaching.

Anyway, I hope this moron does both long, hard time and gets hit with the maximum fine.

Also, assault and battery charges against him for touching the minor child are missing from the list...he should be charged with that as well.

Florida's homestead law allows one to keep his or her personal residence in bankruptcy. It's quite the scam actually...

It's only a scam when certain people move to Florida in order to take advantage of this fair and just rule...

example...OJ Simpson

The BK was also 15 years in the past. If he owned the house at the time of BK, it would have been worth 100-200K, since the market has exploded so much since then.

He could have bought them in the sterile area? Maybe?

Reading this it didn't seem like they were onboard the flight, but part of the group who responded upon landing. But the article was not clear.

That said, FAMs are federal law enforcement and, right, wrong or indifferent, have to enforce the law in the air. They're not just counter-terrorism folks. Unless they have reason to believe that exposing themselves would endanger their primary mission of protecting the integrity of the flight they have to enforce federal law, and this would be part of it. But if they felt it was benign enough to not intervene then they could wait to land and then press charges. Its up to the team in question how to act.

Regardless the guy violated federal law and has charges coming. FAMS enforce federal law, particularly those involving civilian aviation.

I agree, but that would be a state charge, and up to them to pursue.

Kudos to the Captain for insisting that this drunk SOB be jailed.

As for the parents of the kid, and the FA: find the slickest, sleasiest lawyers you can, sue that SOB and torment him for years!

Doesn't matter what the captain thought. It's immaterial. The justice system will determine the appropriate punishment if convicted.

They might need to find the second slickest, sleasiest lawyer. I think the first is now otherwise occupied in the Duval County Jail

Wha?

It makes sense when you don't drop the context:

Moody was not asked during his first court appearance Tuesday to discuss the charges. He told Snyder he wanted to hire his own lawyer. A pretrial services report revealed he was in grief counseling following the recent death of his sister and that he declared bankruptcy in 1992. He owns a $685,000 home in Broward County.
Of course, it's interesting that the reporter felt the need to detail what was in the pretrial services report.

Then again, someone who willingly dredges up a 15-year-old BK is fishing for sympathy where none is deserved, IMO.
