Will we have to put our baggie in a separate bin a la the laptop rule?

Perhaps Congress should authorize a Department of Ziplock Security?

Bart, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this. It is very helpful and a great contribution to FT.

Response: Whatever fits into a quart-sized bag should be fine as long as each of the individual liquid/gel-containing containers inside the bag do not individually appear to exceed 3 oz.

Hmm. If I were someone who played mental "what if" games, I'd be unconvinced that this tactic improves my safety. What's to stop a bad guy from filling nine 3 oz. containers with something dangerous (cough), thereby taking 27 oz. of threat aboard?

Mind you, I'm happy that it appears I can take enough shampoo on my trips. ;)

This is all part of the dog and pony show, for this -- ban, modified ban as practiced/to be practiced -- has no serious security benefit. But this (and the "science behind the changes") makes for good CYA and face-saving devices in the face of a need to reconciling fantasies/paranoia with realities and interests.

Perish the thought! A bad guy would never do that! It would take a rocket scientist to even come up with a theory like that! Do you work for NASA? JPL?

The airlines can still do whatever they want to the lines, we just check the tickets...

No, it does not have to have 3 oz printed on it.

Yes, whatever liquids, gels and aerosols you purchase inside the sterile area is now permitted to be taken aboard aircraft.

Bart, thank you again for your assistance. I'm leaving on an overnight trip tomorrow morning and am considering repacking some of my toiletries into this type of container:

I'll probably label them for my own use, but they're all way under 3 oz (not the bigger one in the picture, btw). Will that be okay?

The point is, TSA will be manning the llines and will have to verify who's elite and who's not. As long as they do exactly what the current people do, that's fine. If they start interrogating people - regardless of regular or elite line - about why they are flying, where they're staying, etc, that's when the problems will start.

GG

Anyone feel like printing their own labels for shampoo, mouthwash, etc...

...in Arabic?

Or for that matter, I wonder how travel-size authentic toiletries by Arabic manufacturers, all labeled, in Arabic - - will be evaluated?

Excellent idea! Please do it, and let us know about the experience. Mahalo!

Is the 3 oz weight, volume or both?

My thought also: one 3 oz. bottle of clorox and one 3 oz. bottle of ammonia, slipped into one's pocket after going through a checkpoint, opened in the loo and spilled on the floor.

ricktoronto Sep 26, 2006 8:45 am

And one coffee pot of water tossed on the floor would eliminate the threat.

I don't know much about this, but my first thought was, "Aaaand...then the floor will be really really clean?" Then I remembered that I'd read never to mix household chemicals and wondered if this would create a toxic gas. Would it?
