As long as there are people with food allergies or religious or other dietary restrictions, they can't. I have to carry my own food on trips because of allergies- I'm pretty sure the airlines are happier with this solution than trying to cook up a meal that I can eat, make absolutely positive that they can get it on my plane, and go through all the related hassle.

Same here. I had a real battle at the Marriott Marquis in NYC last October, but I won eventually. They let me check in when I recited my Marriott Rewards number from memory. That proved I was who I claimed to be!

I've argued with that hotel too. It's not as if I didn't have a reservation in the system with the same credit card as I'd just handed them holding the room for late arrival, the same Marriott gold card in the reservation, etc.
