PreCheck lanes are faster and more convenient than standard security lanes, something that hasn't changed with the ability of standard lane travelers to keep their shoes on. And so long as PreCheck travelers are able to keep more of their things in their bags (laptops, tablets, etc.), I don't see this changing.

Depending on your travel patterns and how big of a pain getting to a GE interview location is for you, Precheck might just be a better fit even though GE only cost marginally more.
Understood, and in your case you are probably right. There are some folks hthat come through here that fly to 10-15 different countries on the regular and they preach about GE and how much it saves them. So I guess maybe it will be situational like many other programs.

One point that is worth mentioning, GE contains Pre, so it may make it worth it for someone that is not 100% on how much differing external travel they will have.

Agreed, it is a solvable problem if there is enough desire for it, but the TSA is not unique in this. At LHR *every* connecting passenger has to go through security again, regardless of where they were originally screened. No trust for anyone. AMS has some system where they trust travelers coming in from other EU locations or the US (maybe also Canada) but do not trust anyone coming from Asia, it looks like, and route those incoming passengers through security. Each agency presumably has someone evaluating whether they feel the other airports' protocols are "good enough" for them to accept. I believe in India international-to-domestic and international-to-international transit passengers all get re-screened. Etc.

I'd venture to say that the lack of trust is more common than not, world-wide.

Some of this is due to airport configurations or a difference in security rules between domestic and international flights. For instance, you mentioned LHR, which would be difficult to operate one stop security at scale. There are some limited flights with one stop security with AA and BA. In Australia, the international and domestic terminals are often physically separate (and there are fewer restrictions on domestic flights, such as liquids), so domestic to international travelers must be rescreened.

At least as of March 2025 when I flew YYC-AMS-KRK there was no additional security check at AMS after arriving from Calgary. (Good thing, since my inbound was late and I had to run to make my flight. Luckily clearing Schengen immigration was quick.)

I flew GRB-MSP-AMS-FLR at the end of April 2026 and there was no security check at AMS, only passport control.

This. Just compare the known number of firearms that get past TSA with the number of firearms that get past other nations' airport security. How often do passengers from anywhere but the US show up in Turks and Caicos or Hong Kong with ammunition or a loaded firearm in their carry-on?
