TSA Hiring in Boston
Noticed a full-page ad on the back of The Metro, which is the daily free newspaper given out in Boston.
Headlined "BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT'S IMPORTANT," it describes the job by saying, "See yourself in a vital role for Homeland Security. Be part of a dynamic security team protecting airports and skies as you proudly secure your future."
Jobs are part-time $15.26-$22.89 per hour, which includes 24.8% locality pay.
You also get federal benefits and paid, ongoing training.

Pretty good starting pay and benefits for someone who may end up spending his/her time stacking tubs and blocking the WTMD.
Training? It appears that the more a TSO errs, the more 'training' (and re-training) available.

Well I wouldn't do same sex genital touching for $15/hr, but I might do opposite sex genital touching. My current job pays $10/hr, and if I had to go job hunting now I'd be expecting to make more like $7-$8 hr before taxes. So, yes, I think $15/hr, a 50% increase in my salary, is pretty tempting despite the recent bump in inflation.
At least before the recent inflation I was willing to do hard physical labor for $10/hr. After the 10-20% price increases in food and other necessities in the past year or two I would probably ask for at least that much extra now. Doesn't mean I'd get it though.
Based on a lot of belittling comments here about TSA wages, I'm guessing that many of you are fat cats who would see $10/hr as living in poverty. I find that pretty funny. I've lived in countries where people make $12/month (net) for working a full time job. The last country I lived in was much more wealthy though. The average wage was about $100/month (net). Although that was often for more than a 40 hour week. Some of you really need some perspective.

The US, unfortunately. I do admit that $10/hr is not nearly as reasonable a wage as it was just a few years ago, but to call it 'poverty' is a serious stretch IMO. The federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr, but in my state it's $8.00/hr. From what I have seen a lot of normal jobs pay around minimum wage where I live. Working for the TSA is a similar kind of job, and they are paying about twice the minimum wage as a minimum salary. I can see how that might be enough to motivate certain types of people to grope genitals. Many of them probably actually like that aspect of the job. So it's not really a downside anyway.
For someone who dreams of being a cop, but cannot even meet the low standards necessary for that and who currently works at a fast food restaurant or Walmart they are getting a job that at least resembles law enforcement and they are doubling their paychecks.
Incidentally, even though I only make $10/hr I have a job that I actually like. I'd much rather make $10/hr at an interesting job than make $15/hr at a crap slave-job. Money isn't everything. Nevertheless, after the recent inflation I will soon be asking for a raise to $12/hr to match inflation. $10/hr now is more like what $8/hr was just a couple of years ago in terms of what you can buy with the money.
