The US, unfortunately. I do admit that $10/hr is not nearly as reasonable a wage as it was just a few years ago, but to call it 'poverty' is a serious stretch IMO. The federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr, but in my state it's $8.00/hr. From what I have seen a lot of normal jobs pay around minimum wage where I live. Working for the TSA is a similar kind of job, and they are paying about twice the minimum wage as a minimum salary. I can see how that might be enough to motivate certain types of people to grope genitals. Many of them probably actually like that aspect of the job. So it's not really a downside anyway.

For someone who dreams of being a cop, but cannot even meet the low standards necessary for that and who currently works at a fast food restaurant or Walmart they are getting a job that at least resembles law enforcement and they are doubling their paychecks.

Incidentally, even though I only make $10/hr I have a job that I actually like. I'd much rather make $10/hr at an interesting job than make $15/hr at a crap slave-job. Money isn't everything. Nevertheless, after the recent inflation I will soon be asking for a raise to $12/hr to match inflation. $10/hr now is more like what $8/hr was just a couple of years ago in terms of what you can buy with the money.
