Is anyone else still contacting their MPs about these? I've been contacting the party leaders every 6 or so weeks about it.

It is aviation remains an attractive target to global terrorists, who are consistently looking for ways to circumvent airport security measures, the DHS official said. Some details on specific enhancements and locations are sensitive because AU officials do not want to give information to those who would do us harm.

No, they really aren't. "terrorists" no longer have any reason or desire to "circumvent airport security measures". They can rely on the paranoia of western governments to do everything for them. If a terrorist really wants to attack aviation, they don't need to get anywhere near an aircraft. They have a soft target that the paranoid western governments have created for them. The security checkpoint.

This is, unfortunately, a nonsense. If the government were as seriously concerned as it makes out, why can you still walk through domestic security checks with no boarding pass, a litre of Coke, and only metal detectors?

I got sent through a whole body scanner this morning in Brisbane. You can carry water bottles on planes in Israel as well.

Allowing non-passengers in the sterile area increased volume, but is not necessarily a security issue if they are properly screened. You can get a pass to entire the sterile zone at US airports to meet unaccompanied children, at some airports as part of a pilot project allowing for
other purposes (eg guests at some hotels attached to airports, etc ).
