In April 2020 Chase criteria for approving BUSINESS card applications became more stringent. All Chase INK products are business cards. Chase also issues co-branded business cards for United Airlines (2 different biz cards), Southwest Airlines (2 different biz cards), Hyatt and IHG.
For general information about applying for Chase cards, including explanation of the unpublished 5/24 rule, please review the Wikipost of the PERSONAL card thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...ds-2023-a.html
Anyone can apply for a business card as a sole proprietor. If your business has a registered company name, which Chase can verify, you may use that name to apply. Otherwise, use only your legal First and Last name as the business name. Do not add any extra words, do not use a made up name. If Chase cannot verify the name the application will fail.

Note: The automated Status Line often shows no record of business card applications. This does NOT mean that there is a problem with your application. You will need to contact Chase to learn the status, or wait for Chase to contact you.
You can use a single Username on chase.com to manage both Business and Personal card accounts, but you will initially need to set them up separately, and then telephonically ask customer service to combine them by merging the Personal account into the Business account. It cannot be done the other way. Once personal account is merged to business account, if all business cards are closed while keeping one (or more) personal cards open, online access to all cards will terminate and a new personal (online) account will need to be created using a different username than previous personal account.
Update: It is possible now to link Business and Personal accounts online. First set them up separately, then log into the Business account and follow this click path: Icon at the top right that looks like a person -> Profile & Settings -> Account Settings -> Manage Linked Accounts. Then look for the "Link relationship" option for the personal accounts. For more information on linking accounts: How to link Chase personal and business accounts?

Approval after consistent denial
Now I do have what I consider to be a compelling data point.
P2 was rejected repeatedly in August/September last year for Inks, after consistently following a reasonable velocity and never being denied before (that we can recall).
Since then, she closed cards in December and March to bring her to two open Chase business cards (one Marriott and one Ink).
She applied for a UA Business card using a public link in April and was instantly approved.
I am now convinced that the key is two or fewer open Chase business cards, assuming that you would otherwise be approved on your merits.

If you get denied for using a business name which Chase can't verify, how soon before you can apply again using your own name? Do you have to wait for a letter to arrive?

Chase's policy does not indicate whether there is also a minimum waiting period between cancellation and reapplication, and there is not yet sufficient anecdotal evidence from FTers to draw firm conclusions. At a minimum, a prudent churner will wait at least a week or two after cancellation before reapplying so that all of Chase's systems fully reflect that closure.

Regarding Pre-Approval notifications in online account. I have a pre-approval offer on my online account. ! have 3 Chase Business cards, 1 Marriott and 2 Ink. I have put 4 figures on one of the Inks for the last 2 months. The other ink gets 100ish. The Marriott card is a sock drawer card for the cert. I am wondering if the pre-approvals are pretty solid or if they are more flakey. Anybody use one lately while having 3 or more business cards?

DP for United Business Card application. Current stats for Biz cards with Chase are 1x Ink Unlimited for Business #1 opened way back in 2012 as another Ink product and changed to an Unlimited in 2018 and 1x Ink Preferred for Business #2 opened early August 2024. I do have a very generous combined credit limit of $75k ($30k and $45k) for these 2 cards.
I decided to try for the New United Biz card on 5/4 due to the elevated sign up bonus which was ending on 5/7. I applied for Business #2. Application went into review. I was having a very busy week and didn't have time to call in to check on the status. 5/7 they posted a letter to my account stating that they could not approve the card for the following reasons:
I figured this shouldn't be too hard to resolve on a reconsideration call. I called recon line yesterday and was transferred from the front line rep to an underwriter. I explained my reason for applying for the new United card despite having "just" gotten an Ink card for this company in August by saying we want the travel benefits from the card and to move United travel related expenses to this card. I stated my willingness to move credit from the current Ink Preferred to this United Biz card should they be so kind and approve it.
The underwriter accepted my reason for wanting the card, but she said that she's unable to transfer credit from my existing card because I have over $150k in aggregate CL across all my business cards in which case Chase required further income verification review. I was totally flummoxed by that being I knew for a fact that I only had the 2 cards I listed above open with a total of $75k CL combined.
I asked the rep to list me the last 4 digits of each business card she sees with the credit line associated with it. Card #1 was the existing Ink Unlimited $30k CL, Card #2 I did not see in my account but showed on her end as active also with a $30k CL and had a small balance of $400.xx, Card #3 was the existing Ink Preferred $45k CL, Card #4 was another card I didn't see but she said was active too with $60k CL, and Card #5 had a $5k CL and this one I saw in my account and clearly showed it was closed (I had closed it in August 2024).
So the surplus of $95k CL that was showing on her end was causing my aggregate limit to be above the $150k allowed, but 3 of those cards were long closed or didn't exist. Upon reviewing the 5 cards with her again we realized that Card #2 was actually a duplicate of Card #1 and was showing the last 4 digits of the card from before the 2018 product change. I did my own research on Card #4 with the $60k CL and that one had the numbers changed after a fraud alert in 2021 to the numbers on Card #5. I transferred part of the CL and reduced the rest to $5k before closing it back in August. Thus Cards #2, #4,and #5 needed to be removed from her list along with the associated $95k CL granting her the ability to move credit from one of the existing cards to the new one because that would put me at the correct $75k CL which is half of the $150k allowed. She said she can't do it and to call customer service to help me with that and gave me a number to call. That number was actually for collections and they said they can't help and hung up so I just called the number on the bank of my existing Ink card and thus started an over 90 minute call where I was punted around to get this fixed but it finally was.
I was then transferred back to the business card department to finish the reconsideration of the United biz card. This time I was taken through the ringer with a million questions regarding the business and then about my personal finances. I was then transferred yet again to another underwriter and answered some more questions and was told that the app still needed more review and that this was standard procedure and to expect a response by mail within 5 to 7 business days
. After spending almost 2 hours on the phone this was somewhat disappointing to put it mildly. I wanted to get this CL issue fixed regardless of this card because I didn't need them to keep showing me as having $95k of credit that didn't exist, but getting the card approved was also at the forefront of this effort.
I was however, very relieved (and happy!) this morning when I received an email from Chase letting me know that my card was approved. They had taken $5k CL from the existing Ink Preferred. I called to get some more of the credit line over to the new card so we're good to go now. I'm still trying to decide if this was worth all that effort but for now I'll take a hiatus on signing up for Biz cards in the very near future (i.e. at least 6 months).

I was having a very busy week and didn't have time to call in to check on the status. 5/7 they posted a letter to my account stating that they could not approve the card for the following reasons:
- Too much available credit (I'm perfectly ok with them moving credit from another card which I've done plenty of times in the past to get a card approved and sometimes they've done it automatically for me but in this case they didn't)
- New Chase business card recently opened (so I guess 9 months is still considered recent in their book, but really not in mine
)

P2 applied for a chase Ink Cash card at the beginning of May and got the same exact 2 reasons for denial. Her last Chase biz card was the Ink Preferred opened 11 months ago. There is an Ink Cash that was closed more than a year ago but is still showing in her online account. I think she may have the same issue as you did. Can you please share which number or department at Chase that you talked to that finally fixed your issue? Thanks.
My issue wasn't that much with a closed card that was still showing for me in my online account (but showed as closed) because that one only had $5k CL. The bigger issue is was 2 accounts that were NOT showing up for me with much larger credit lines ($60k and $30k) both of which were not accurate and should have not been counted as detailed in my above post. But if they told you that your issue is with aggregate CL being above the allowed amount and they're counting credit lines they shouldn't be, call the number on the back of the card, explain it to them and it will get fixed.

Wow. This is so crazy. Thank you for sharing.
This may be why those who preemptively lower their CL sometimes have an easier time of getting approved for new business cards. The CL of these phantom business cards have already been lowered, so even if they exist in the Chase system, it doesn't negatively impact as much.
