Call Chase. They have access to past statements pretty far back.

Is anyone else imagining some man or woman who will be sitting behind a desk in late October or early November getting handed a report and asking, "why the heck are Sapphire applications up 700 percent while we're in the middle of a pandemic"?

Does Chase have a step like Amex where if you are not eligible for a signup bonus, you will be a prompt saying so?

No. You need to apply 48+ months after the new account bonus posted to your Ultimate Rewards account.
Happy and RNE like this.

Need advice canceling Sapphire Reserve

I am canceling my Sapphire Reserve card because of the annual fee increase. Past years they have posted the charge on September 1st, but right now it's not showing on my account just yet. Problem is, I still have not used about $180 from my travel credit. I think I can just go to a grocery store today and spend $180 and I should be OK, right? Planning on just buying gift cards.

I tried to find a list of grocery stores that are eligible, but couldn't find anything online, just that maybe Target and Walmart are not included. Will I be safe at stores like Albertson's, Raplhs, Gelson's, etc???

For reference, I got my credit card before 2017, so my travel credit goes with the calendar year.

If you obtained the card prior to 21 May 2017, the travel credit is based upon your cardmember year - not the calendar year.

But to answer your question specifically, the stores you listed should activate the credit (provided the grocery credit is still in effect.)

Thank you! I did get it before 2017 and the summary does say the credit will reset December 2020

Funny, I may have actually messed up the wording in my reply but you arrived at the correct conclusion.

So my Sapphire Reserve annual membership fee just posted and it's only $450. Wasn't supposed to be $550?

Fee increase was effectively delayed for existing cardholders until 2021 due to the pandemic.

This is actually backwards, as worded.

You would be better served to spend the remainder of your current credit, and in December spend the new $300 credit. Then after that, downgrade your CSR to a Freedom for a pro-rated refund of your annual fee.

It is AFTER your Dec Statement closes the Travel Credit will start anew as another CALENDAR YEAR, even tough technically it isn't 2021 yet. This has caused tremendous confusion to many people, even to this day, 4 years later.
