I have separate accounts for business and personal cards. After seeing reports of cards simply becoming available as targets for combining points, I looked to see if I was one of the lucky ones. (Thanks, fredc84 and Schnit.) One personal card was available from a business card. Apparently having separate accounts is not a roadblock to combining points from business to personal, nor a roadblock to having the account appear spontaneously.

How many cards do you have in each Username (personal, business)? I am wondering if a large number of cards may block the appearance of cards from other Usernames?

I have one UR business card under the business username, two UR personal cards under the personal username, and the one card that appeared for combining from my UR business card is one of three UR cards in P2's personal account. (That P2 card is also available from my personal account.) In short, not many cards, so I cannot provide a data point to support or refute your speculation.

Schnit May 17, 2023 1:43 pm

I just did a test

P1 - 1 personal, 4 business UR cards
P2 - 2 personal, 5 business UR cards

Both of us have business and personal accounts linked to business log in.

When I log in to our personal accounts the only option is to transfer to personal. When I log into business I can transfer to business or personal.

The transfer to P2 card on P1 account is a personal account, and available on both log ons

In the last month I actually gained the ability to combine points between SO and my accounts (pers to biz, via the website) after never having been able to do it before. So the changes aren't always to the bad.

How? Was there a link? An option? What?

No. In the past when everyone had issues I had to call to transfer points between our accounts every time, not just the first time. When I looked recently at SO's account, my account for my Ink Preferred was there. It had never been there before and this was the first time I ever saw it there in about a year and 8 months time frame. I didn't DO anything to make that happen.

I've transferred points to my spouse's reserve card in the past. Now we want to transfer her Ink points to her reserve but they tell me only one card can be linked and I need to unlink the other card first.

You can't transfer from spouse card and your own ink into a Reserve?

Who are "they"? Did you speak with Chase customer service or are you reading an on-screen message? To be sure we understand correctly, your wife is the primary cardholder on both the INK and the Sapphire Reserve account? Does she use one Username to access both accounts, or does she have a separate Username for personal and business cards?

Chase calls moving points from one Ultimate Rewards account to another "Combining", not "Transferring". It's best to use their terminology when communicating with Customer Service.

'They' is sm chat then via phone call.
She is primary on both cards. Separate logins.

Understood about combining/transferring, but they both knew what I wanted to do and couldn't do it.

Do not unlink your card from hers. If you do, you’ll have to call Chase every time you want to move (combine) UR from your account to hers.

The best solution is for her to link her personal & business cards into a single login. (Do this from the business side.) Once that’s done, she can freely move (combine) points between her various UR cards regardless of your card being linked to her CSR. I did this & it was life-changing WRT managing UR points.

This sounds like a good idea. Although I still can't transfer/combine from my account by myself, I have to chat with them to do it, but at least they do it

Would it work to transfer from her ink to a different card, say a freedom, then from there to reserve? Does this raise red flags?

Thanks

I do a similar double transfer most months.

I did that and it worked, thanks!

Is there discussion that Chase may stop allowing transfer to higher value cards or between household? They certainly seem to want to make it difficult.

ETA- after asking chat to transfer now the Freedom card appears as able to transfer online! This is on a business login

Agree. I have several business and personal UR earning cards. As soon as one posts, I move points into the premium account that serves as my master account. I do it not only for the protection detailed by beltway, but it gives me a quick visual on my total pot of UR points.

I am suddenly having trouble transferring UR points. I tried recently to transfer from my Freedom to my wife's Sapphire Reserve (which I had done successfully many times) and I got an error message. Then I realized that I her CC number had changed because we lost her card and got a new one. So I removed her old CC number, then realized there was no link or button to add a new external account. I checked my Ink account, and still no way to add an external account. I then looked at my wife's Sapphire Reserve account, and there was no apparent way to add an external account. The webpage still talks about transferring to external accounts, but now its not clear how to do it. Anyone else come across this problem? Should I call Chase?
