Anyone confirm downgrading (product change) an Ink Plus to Ink Cash/Classic is doable?
Should be possible since it's going from a UR earning credit card to a UR earning credit card, but confirmation is much appreciated. |

Keep 1 permanent card?
Guys
I only have a credit history dating back 3 years but a very good one. Apart from 4-5 from amex, citi, I have chase priority club opened in aug 2012, ink bold and marriott Initially i thought i should close off priority club since i don't use it and the annual fee is coming up. However, on 2nd thoughts, I think i may want to convert it into a freedom or any other no-annual fee card just to keep one card permanently with them to maintain a long credit history. Does that make sense and can they convert a card maintaining the credit history length? Thanks |

Thanks Also, I doubt (99% positive) you cannot change from a co-branded CC (in your case the Priority Club/IHG) to a non-co-branded CC. You will most likely (99%) get the same message as @oceandreamer posted above. |
Something strange happened when my mother downgraded her CSP to Freedom MC.
The strangest thing just happened. My mother had a CSP (let's say...ending in 1234) with a $5k limit.
I had her SM Chase to convert it into a Freedom MC...which they did. They shipped her a New Freedom credit card with a new credit number (ending in..say...5678) Except that the old card ending in 1234 STILL showed on her Chase profile, ALSO as a Chase Freedom!! So I told her to SM them and tell them to take it out of her profile. They replied asking her if she'd want to move the $5k limit from that Freedom card to the other Freedom MC card?!!!!!!!! Say what? I've checked her credit report. Chase did not do a separate pull (at first I thought the Freedom MC could have been a new card with a new hard pull). So what's happening? How could the old card (1234) have turned into a new Freedom MC with new numbers (5678) and also self-converted into a Freedom Visa with the same numbers (1234)?:confused: |
This is normal. I had the same happen with another conversion - the old card number will drop off after 1-2 billing cycles, and is probably not able to be charged. The new card is the only true card.

When you do a Chase PC the old card (CSP in this case) will stay active for approximately 45-60 days during the transition process. After those 45-60 days, the old card will automatically become inactive and disappear from your account. When I did exactly this (PCing my CSP Visa to a Freedom MC) the CSR told me that I could continue to use my CSP with the same rewards structure during those 45 days, but it appears that it switched over to the Freedom reward structure immediately. So when I was physically swiping my CSP Visa, it was like I was swiping my new Freedom MC when it came to rewards.
Also, I suspect the CSR was mistaken when she asked if they could move the $5k limit. It would have likely produced an error if she tried to execute that change. |
Thanks... That's what I suspected but lets see how the CSR responds now.

Update: So mum got another Secure message saying that the CSR had made a mistake and that the $5000 CL wasn't really available for use.
So the CSR said that she was going to go ahead and remove it from her account. And it's done. The old account is no longer on her profile. But... Wait for it... Her new Freedom MC credit line has now increased by $5000.:confused::confused::confused:

But no hard pull or new trade/credit line, correct?

So when you call the number on the back of the Freedom MC card, it says the credit limit is now $10k? If so, I'd lay low, you got lucky.

Which card to PC to Freedom?
I have a Chase Amazon from '08, CSP from March, United Explorer from April and Ink from June. Dining expenses are minimal and I will use Barclays Arrival and AMEX BCP for most spending after I hit 25K on United. I want to either product change the Amazon to Freedom and close CSP when it hits 11 months, or keep Amazon and product change CSP to Freedom. I am assuming I can transfer Freedom points to Ink. We do buy a lot from Amazon, and can put their points to good use.
I was denied for United business for too many new accounts (16 total new cards opened this year) and recently opened Ink. My main goal is SW personal and business, Ink Plus and United Business over the next year, and maybe a hotel card somewhere along the way. Family of 4 and we stay in low-mid price hotels off the beaten path using Arrival points. Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated. |
What is your goal?
The Chase Amazon seems like the only card you've had for a few years, so I'd hold on to that since your credit score is impacted by the average length of time your accounts have been open. FYI: You may get more points by purchasing Amazon gifts cards at office stores with your Ink. |
