Chase won't let you go from co-branded cards to cards like the CSP or freedom anymore, at least according to the rep when I asked.

Sounds like you know your stuff, possibly better than me. :D I assume you already know, but in case you haven't seen it, SW is having the 50k mile promotion again, and they've announced the mileage devaluation:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...nts-offer.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...31-2014-a.html The website says the 50k bonus is good until 10/30/14. Since you were recently denied for having too many cards, do you think you can get both the SW personal & business in one round? Since you need to wait a full year between applications, you'll have to decide if you want to apply for both in late October or wait until next year. Rhetorical ?) since you have nearly a million miles, what's the hurry? My mileage balance is a lot lower than yours, but I'm happy with it, because it fits my needs. I personally focus on the hotel points / free stays, because that's where a majority of our travel budget used to go. Yes, you can transfer from between your personal UR accounts & your spouse's. I see no reason why you couldn't transfer to the Ink if it's in your name. If the Ink is for a business with a different EIN, then it may violate Chase's terms (I'm guessing here). I'm not exactly sure if the same restrictions exist for transferring UR from the business cards, and was about to search FT for the answer. I'll let you know if I find anything. As far as hotel cards go, the Marriott & IHG both give a free night every year that is worth more than the annual fee. My wife I have have both cards with the same anniversary date, so we can get 2 nights free at each per year. |
Converting an old Chase Slate to Freedom?
Hi all. I have an old Chase Slate card that's gone unused for years. I keep it open though just for the boost to my utilization ratio and credit history. I'm thinking however about asking Chase to convert this card from a Slate to a Freedom, so I can start taking advantage of the 5x category bonuses.
If I do this, how will it impact my credit history? Will it be transparent to credit reporting agencies, or will it look like I started a brand new line of credit? |

Becareful on CLIs though, if you ask for a CLI when you PC, they will hard pull you without telling you. Make sure you ask for the same limit and ask to make sure it's only a soft pull. Of course if you don't mind the hard pull then it doesn't matter. |

My oldest revolving account is my good ol' Chase Slate from 2003.
I am accumulating points with my CSP right now and would love to product change my Slate to the Freedom. If I do, will my Freedom be listed as an open account from 2003? or 2013? (and for what credit reports?) Obviously that would affect my score. And also, does Chase soft pull for this? Thanks all. |

When the 0% promo is over for the Slate, the Slate gives no rewards. It either gets sock drawered or changed into something else (if you're allowed to). The Freedom gives great UR points and if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you can transfer your Freedom points to the CSP. |
Converting to Sapphire Preferred
I currently have the regular Sapphire card. I want to convert to Preferred. Will I be eligible to get the 40K bonus?
Do I just call customer service and make the conversion? or is there a specific way to do it to make sure I get the 40K bonus. I assume that my current UR points balance will roll forward? Correct? Also I currently have the low end SW card. Any reason to keep this card when I get the SP? Obviously I will wait until my annual fee comes up to see if I can negotiate something. The only reason I can see keeping it is the 4 free drinks I get annually and the 3,000 annual SW points. These 2 items cancel out the $69 annual fee. |

You can always ask for a bonus. If you spend enough on the Sapphire card, they'll want to keep you. It may not be 40k though...

As for your WN card, putting spend on it would be pointless since the CSP points multiplier are higher. If you want to keep it for the perks, I would prefer the higher end WN card. the 6000 pts a year is already worth more than the AF. I value WN at 1.5 CPP so 6000 pts = $90, and you get more perks with the higher end WN card. If you don't mind doing that, I personally think it's nice to combo an airline/hotel card with the CSP. CSP for the points, the airline/hotel card for the perks. A good amount of people do that on here (understatement of the year, lol). |

Most likely won't get the bonus for converting to the CSP. But you never know as they might give you an offer. Call first.

I think the three cards from Chase I will keep long term will be the CSP, the Hyatt and the Freedom (once I get the last two, eventually).

That's probably the most popular combo for Chase and a heck of a deal. Try to find a way to add the no AF Ink.

I considered it, but the only thing I would really use it for is the 2x on gas. I'd rather use my 5% cash back card from Pen Fed when the Freedom doesn't have gas as a bonus category. Luckily my UA card expires right at the beginning of the year, so I can just cancel it in favor of the Freedom.
