So I called chase to try to change over my southwest visa over to something else while I was living abroad. Just any card without an annual fee.
The agent first offert to try to convert the card to such an account, then came back and said they're no longer able to do that anymore because of the "new credit card act". Has anyone heard of this? Sounds like BS to me... All I did in the past was converting a non fee card to a fee card... |

Southwest visa is a co-branded credit card. Such cards can't be converted unless SW has any non-fee card.

I'm going to try to convert my Marriott premier card to freedom after the free night posts.. I converted my CSP to freedom in Feb and that was a really good move. Earned 15k points in the 5x categories.

When I had the freedom, I kept the count and found not all of my 5X points were correctly awarded. Maybe it was the fault of the merchants, but CSP 2X on dining and traveling has been working flawlessly so far. |
I just asked via secure message if it was possible to convert a Freedom to a CSP and they said it was no problem. Big catch is no 40,000 bonus points. Only upside is no hard pull and your card history "sticks" from the first card (it's treated and reported as one continuous account).

Then I realized it would be a better life for me if I can stop thinking about that 50000 points. At least there is no chance of getting a denial letter from Chase that breaks you heart... |
I have read this entire thread, and saw that in the personal cards the account has to be open 1 year + 1 day to convert it. After getting a SM from Chase saying my MC accounts are being converted automatically to Visa, I am interested in seeing if I can downgrade my Ink Plus and Bold. Both have been open for less than a year.
Does the 1 year + 1 day apply to business cards? From what I have read here, the Bold cannot be downgraded. I just want to keep my options open to get the card + bonus again in the future. But I also like to keep cards open at least 6 months. The Plus account is over 6 months old, but will be converted before it is a year old to Visa. The Bold account was opened during small business week. The 6 months since approval on the Bold will not occur until after the first of the year, which may be too late to avoid the Visa conversion. So ideally, I would like to downgrade the Bold and close the Plus card, but from what I have read here that might not be possible. Chase doesn't take away a card bonus if the card is not open for 6 months, do they? Chase did say I would be notified before the conversion from MC to Visa was made. Thanks for any input! |

The Bold is a charge card, so i doubt it can be product changed into anything else. Try product changing the Plus card instead and close the Bold card.
My first SM to Chase asked if my accounts were going to be converted from MC to Visa in the next few weeks. They replied saying there would be a conversion. I read more into that than I should have. I thought at first reading it the time period for the conversion was going to be soon. I sent another SM that took 2 days to get an answer to. It said the timeframe was account specific not card specific. So it could happen by the end of this year, or it could be a year from now. I guess I will just stick with my original plan until I am notified my accounts are being transitioned. |

I want to apply for the Ink Plus so I can convert to the Ink Cash when the one year is up but i don't want to risk keeping the Ink Plus card longterm! Might just apply for the Ink Cash instead... |

Yeah, Chase is the weirdest. I tried finding out if one can convert the Ink Plus to an Ink Classic or Ink Cash but there is no set answer. Most people say it is possible after 1 year + 1 day, however some people could not downgrade after the 1 + 1 time frame.

Why would you risk keeping the Plus card long term? You can just cancel it and apply for the Cash and explain you weren't able to downgrade it via the rep.

You won't be able to.
My free night and southwest anniversary points have posted so I will be cancelling both, perhaps transferring limits to ink or freedom card. |
