Thank you for your response. Unfortunately the moderator moved this and did not indicate what topic it was being moved to. We will be staying next week in San Pedro at the Jade Boutique Hotel. Any information would be aprreciated.

Rumor has it that the Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio has opened a Costa Rican version of his Lima cevichería La Mar in San José. Check around for it, if this is true and you're a seafood fan, you won't eat any better anywhere.

Good hotel, I am in that area almost everyday.

Jurgens, right next to the Hotel, in fact its the restaurant of the hotel, EXCELLENT food and very reasonably priced

in that same area, Le Chandelier, its a 3 minute ride or so

Italian food, Il Ritorno in 'Casa Italia' /Los Yoses, again a 3 minute taxi ride or even less

Those are all easy to get to. You can head further East towards Curridabat , you will find peruvian (El Chacay , 200 meters east of Pops Curridabat) but do NOT do that on rush hour , its bumper to bumper for about 2 miles

There is another good restaurant in a little hotel about 4 blocks away from your hotel but the name escapes me at this time, when I remember I will post again

Let me stress the importance of not carrying around /flashing large amounts of cash/jewelry and do not carry your passport with you, leave it at the safe in the hotel and carry a photocopy of your biographical page

Any question feel free to ask or PM me.

Le Bergerac is the name of the little hotel , about 3 blocks away from Jade Boutique , that has a nice restaurant

I hope you enjoy your stay in SJO.

Wolfie, over and out.

what kind of dining are you interested in? Fine, local, something in between?

im interested in all types. If there is a place that we simply have to visit, then i want to know about it. Whether its the nicest place in town or a hole in the wall.

In san jose we are staying at the presidente.
Arenal we are staying at the lost iguana.
Jaco we are staying at the copacabana.

Thanks.

BTW did you ever figure out the name of Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio's restaurant?

Nice restuarants in San Jose

There are several very nice restaurants in San Jose. Depending on your taste, you can find them in the city, Escazu, San Pedro, etc.

For dinner, in the city, try Cafe Mundo - it is a local hangout.
For a finer taste, in El Pueblo, go to La Cocina de Lena.
If you like a good steakhouse, think of Donde Carlos in San Pedro.
For a nice view, go to Le Monestere, beautiful view but food is OK.
There is even an Indian Tandoori restaurant with daily buffet.
There are several half way decent Chinese restaurants also.

Hope this is helpful!
