PS
Not a CX elite but an OWE
I believe the Y cabin was really full on that day
Then it was an op up, not birthday upgrade.

Success on MNL-HKG on my bday ^. Upgrade offered from Y+ to J, and allowed to choose one of my two travel companions to join me up front. We weren't on the same booking. Somewhat awkward moment

I'm sure the unchosen companion will hate you for the rest of his life.

Not if they decided who goes up front with him by playing rock, paper, scissors

Got upgraded from Y to J on a fanfare ticket on my birthday. Load was light across all cabins and decided to put my MP-SL number in the booking. Last time I got this was when I was GLD a couple years back so surprised they still do it for SL. The little card with messages from the crew was a nice touch too...

Does anyone know if upgrades only work with MPC members or is it all OW FF (in my case, BAEC)?

I haven't heard anything about other OWE/OWS. I guess they only match flight date against the passenger profile in the MPC account but not with birthdays, if any, reported on the ticket.

Haha, no it's only MPC. They're trying to encourage/reward folks to join THEIR program.......which is brutally Spartan compared to some of the others in OW...

Yup birthday upgrades only work day of departure when MPC passes a message to ground staff - ground staff can't do anything even if they see it's your birthday on passport for non-MPC elites.

I can guarantee that it does not work for other OW FFs. I did a flight on my birthday many years back. I had BAEC Gold. Nope. No deal. Airport staff wouldn't do it cos they said there is nothing on their system to advise so.

Apparently the reservation is 'flagged' by the Marco Polo Club membership... so it only works when MPC sends a message at check in.
