I think any changes to the current JCL config are unlikely and CX will continue with the installation of the seats in their current form. I believe CX are looking at their next generation of seats that may be introduced in a couple of years. Apparently they're taking into account all of the postivie and negative feedback from the current seat. At least that's what I was told at a recent MPO event.

Before everyone gets too excited about CX reviewing the J seats, note that it is just a change to a "reverse" herringbone configuration, meaning there will still be a partition seperating customers. Take a look at the US Airways forum and the new Envoy seats, and I think CX might be heading in that direction. The seats do look not that much better than the current ones, it still looks prety cramped. Also, as always, more room in J probably means less seat count which reduces award availability.
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...d.main/4371171 under the US air envoy seat it says another far east airline has chosen it. I wonder if it is CX. it's interesting they can fit 4 abreast on an A330 which I'm sure will excite cx. But how could they add an additional seat on wide bodied 777s and 747s and still keep aisle access for everyone? |

I have a friend in CX engineering. The woman who brought in the coffin seats 'left the company' some time ago. They intend to change the direction of the seats so you look out of the window and have sliding partitions so you can see your colleague/family/partner. Remember the safety thing about fitting your oxygen mask first before your child ? maybe with the sliding partition it will now become possible.

Seats facing towards window? That means it is even harder to look out the window cause it's so far from you. And I wouldn't enjoy so many butts walking pass my head while sleeping.

cx regional business
are they all flat beds with regional business (SGN-HKG, HKG-SIN)?
anyone sit in 12D or G before? are they too close to the toilets? |
If you are reffering to regional business seats, no they are not flat beds. SGN is almost a guaranteed regional business seat. On some SIN flights there may be a 74A or 77A operating them depending on the day of the week which have the long haul flat seats. But regional flights are prone to last minute a/c substitutions and can result in a switch to a regional J seat configuration or vice versa.

I fly Cathay exclusively for regional flights from TPE in J but always seem to get the basic regional configuration.
As fate would have it I had my first experience of the herringbone J seats today a few minutes after browsing this thread in the HGK lounge. An excellent opportunity to see what the fuss was about. It was only a 1:20 flight but long enough to see that it is a good overall product, especially for solo business travellers. I don't get the comments about where to put your right arm since the divider is curved outwards allowing plenty of space to throw out your elbow or recline on the armrest. I found the storage space just fine. Seat is very comfortable in both sitting and sleeping positions. The only nitpicky complaint would be that the tray table does not pull out far enough which means precariously shovelling (very tasty) food across your lap. I don't have any problem with the 3-point seatbelt, it's not exactly a big inconvenience to wear for five minutes. Also FAs did not insist on a completely upright seat position as long as everybody was vaguely vertical. Nothing about the seat would put me off booking on international J with Cathay, in fact I might be more encouraged to consider them for future international flights. |
