Seat maps for Airbus A340-300 in new configuration are now published.

They have really reduced premium seat capacity in order to pack in more Y seats. And there are even fewer J seats on a 34B than the 33B. Interesting strategy given that other carriers are increasing premium seats.
I guess good timing given the current economic climate, but I'm guessing it's more good luck than good planning.

Well not entirely. I'm guessing sooner or later we'll see 2 class 77Ws or lower premium config'ed ones being delivered for less payload/range restricted flights once all the North American flights have migrated to 77As. They'd make a good replacement for the A34C/Ds flying those 3xWeekly flights to FRA & CDG.

The reason for the four less J seats on the 34B as opposed to the 33B/34D/34C is because on the 343 series there is a crew rest area where the galley is on the 33B. Thus reducing the amount of space in zone 1 on the 34B for J seats.

The 34B's will be gradually phased in on 34D routes. With the exception of CX256/7 there are not very many other consistently 34C routes anymore anyway (and even CX256/7 went out as a 34D more often than not). CX have clearly earmarked the 34B as their thin long haul aircraft (even more so than they earmarked the 340 as such right at the beginning).
