Cathay serving Tap water?

Flying HKG-NRT on 12.05. I asked for sparkling water but still water was served, not a major and a genuine mistake. What I am more concerned about was that the water was tap water.

I only discovered this when I tasted it and it had a strong taste (and smell) of Chlorine.

I remember Cathay always serve still water from a large bottle and never tap water. The attendant informed me it was a change in policy and she would write up my complaint.

Either I have never noticed this before or it really is a change that CX are serving tap water now?

Anyone else have similar experience or this is an isolated case?

I had a similar experience flying from HKG to LHR recently. I gave back my bottled water which was provided on my seat hoping that I will get a replacement, instead I got my old bottle back with it filled up.

I guess my memory goes back further. Twenty-odd years ago, in economy, "tap" water (i.e. from a tank of "potable" water on the plane) poured from a jug was standard on all routes.

That was summer 2015, because I was on one of the very plane that got microbial contamination. Only bottled waters was served in economy, while toilets have huge signs saying Do not drink from tap. I forgot whether hot drinks (coffee/tea) were suspended or brewed from bottled water.
