Relationship Manager

I am aware that the cut-off is around 2300-2400 SP. What are the benefits of having an RM? Is it worth it?

unless the RM is able to magically open up inventory for you, there is nothing else your PA cannot do for you.

Never heard of a DM getting assigned a RM... unless this is like the Medallion program from Amex? Reserved for the top spending DM+'s?

There was a trial program in May this year.
Eligibility: active members within the Asia Pacific region with at least 2,400 status points or above earned in 2023

How was your experience interacting with the RM?

I assume its the equivalent of what other regions already have. I am aware some ports, especially those that dont have many DMs, have a sales representative to take care of their issues.

Sadly, I fear that for CX as with other HK entities (such as HSBC) "Relationship Manager" actually means "commission-based sales rep focussed on extracting more money from you". Which is not what I feel a Relationship Manager should be.

I didn't opt in but a friend of mine was happy with his RM. I didn't ask how did his RM help him specifically though.

This is why I have never ever spoken to my HSBC RMs and they seem to rotate as well.

What can CX RMs sell you though? They don't have random products they can sell you like HSBC. If I am going somewhere, I am going somewhere and if not, I am not. I am no going to book a ticket somewhere just because a RM "sells" me on it. I guess they can hawk Cathay mooncakes or some such? Maybe Cathay holidays? That would seem pretty low rent and off brand for Cathay though.

I've had the same RM at Standard Chartered (HK) for the last 10+ years and speak with him regularly, often about things that won't earn him a commission anytime soon or ever.

I've got a CX RM. I'm based in SG if that helps. They book for a massage slot for me in the pier. Get me a free buggy for connections if the connection is really far. For more complex booking, they can set things up. Sometimes, I tell my RM that I want to go on a holiday, and ask for the cheapest business class ticket around a 8-12 hour flight radius including transit and he comes back to me. He also helps with booking of hotels with free upgrades and sometimes asks if I want to meet station chief for meals if I'm around the area. Basically, you can get it as personalized as you want or as unpersonalized as you want. I'm pretty happy with my RM. I've got my RM when I got over 3200 status points.

Reminds me of the days when CX would advertise hotel booking service ("Stay-a-While" packages) on printed timetables.

I also have a RM and I must say shes doing a fantastic job when compared to 27473333 hotline agents.

My RM knows the product/ticketings well and whenever I have some complex booking inquiries she has always been dealing with them very efficiently. She also knows all my family members profiles as I was booking a family holiday months ago and she already have their details (membership #) pull up.

To sum up, I reckon an agent on the hotline would take 30 mins for the same task that my RM can do it in 5 mins. Let alone the numerous times when I had to explain to multiple agents on multiple calls to get things sorted.

FYI, I flew over 2,600 status points in 2023 and over 3,100 status points in 2024 though I dont know the actual cut off/criteria. I have been assigned a RM again for 2025.
