HKT-DPS - why does it keep changing?

It is better than an A321. Sadly CX does not understand how much the quality of its so called business class hardware varies and how this hurts its reputation and ultimately its finances. Both the A321s and 777-300s should be sold as PY. And these 777-300s are likely to still be used until into the 2030s.

I think CX wouldn't care and wouldn't compensate you, but I think there isn't a high chance of an equipment swap because they have specially scheduled a different aircraft on a few select days, and they usually don't do last-minute equipment swaps for those, however, anything is possible. I know that Flightradar does not show the registration prior to the DPS flight, but I can update you on the situation if I can, on this thread the morning of your flight. You can also check the timetable a few hours before your flight as that is usually accurate before the flight. Keep an eye on this thread on the morning of the flight, or I can PM you if you want.

i think the B777-300 should be gone by 2028, based on when CX wants their new planes.
any airline could have EQV in aircraft last minute, especially with ones with many fleet types such as KE, QR (which is infamous for this) and TG, so there's nothing that truly could be done but wait.

Major Puppy, there are 17 A350s each with 438 seats and 15 A330s that have already reached 20 years old. That is a lot of capacity. With the current state of manufacturers order books it would be a miracle to see all replaced in 2028. Certainly 2028 may be the year when the first replacement craft arrives but not the last. I expect that to occur several years further into the future.

True, but I thought I should point out that CX has 18 A350-1000s which each have 334 seats in total, not 438. That is a big difference in capacity, which means that CX will likely keep the 777-300s for a while longer while other aircraft replace them into the 2030s I would assume.

Been on quite a few regional routes as of late
lots of antique a330 with the 2-2-2 J and 777-300 2-3-2 randomly popping up
Bali I think if its the 777-300 it might be the regional J. As far as Indonesia other route goes Jakarta is a330 with the 1-2-1 config

Great news for the OP, the flight to DPS is going to be operated by an A350-1000 (B-LXH) today! I think once CX schedules some different infrequent equipment for a route which usually gets a completely different type, the chance of an equipment swap isn't too high.

Cathay has taken the A330 off the route, presumably due to high demand. They will fly the 777-300 usually, but have scheduled some A350-1000 flights for the first a few Mondays and Thursdays during August (5th, 8th, 12th, 15th, 19th, 22nd). It looks like there are no A330 flights in August unless there is an equipment swap, which doesn't seem too likely on a route where they have upgauged equipment at fairly short notice. Just book the 35K, it's much better than the regional 777s. Quick warning, CX is known for its equipment swaps on regional routes, but I have a feeling that this is the schedule they will stick with. I don't know about varying prices, but trying to book using an incognito tab might help.
I was actually looking into our first proper family holiday in several years and eyeing DPS.
Ended up fixing departure date to 22nd to snag PEY on the A35K.
Of course, this will likely make Y on the return on a crowded 777 feel worse...

Always happy to help, enjoy the A350! Yeah, it's a shame that the regional 777s are such a step down from pretty much all of Cathay's other products but I guess it will be phased out in the not-too-distant future, and then all CX aircraft will be up to standard.

I'm booked on CX785 early September and I can also see it has "random" A351 here and there instead of the B773. I'm on PEY from BCN to HKG and then Y to DPS, it would be a nice surprise if they swapped my B773 to a A351 with PEY
