HKT-DPS - why does it keep changing?

UPDATE: I cannot find any flights on the A330 from HKG-DPS or DPS-HKG in the month of August. If you know of any, please let me know ASAP!

I've been trying to book a flight from NRT-DPS (via HKG) for about a week now. A few issues:

(1) The price varies wildly from $3k to $4k - the prices changes whilst I'm trying to check out ("Sorry the fare has gone up...)

(2) The route switches between 777 (CX 784) and the A350-1000 (900?) route non-stop. For example, one day (Monday August 5) has the flight on a 777, CX784, and now it just changed.

Can anyone tell me when the HKG-DPS route is operated by the A350? I've been on the regional J on the 777 and it is a joke (2-3-2 really?).

Thanks!

HKT and DPS are usually operated by A330. Maybe due to high demand, they used 777 to increase capacity.

Cathay does not fly from Phuket to Denpasar.

You may want to try Air Asia.

I'm checking again (via Google Flights) throughout early August and even the TYO-HKG route is being serviced by 777's in some cases: Cathay PacificBusiness ClassBoeing 777CX 521

Worse, I cannot find ANY flights on the A330 from HKG-DPS. Can anyone help with this?

Cathay has taken the A330 off the route, presumably due to high demand. They will fly the 777-300 usually, but have scheduled some A350-1000 flights for the first a few Mondays and Thursdays during August (5th, 8th, 12th, 15th, 19th, 22nd). It looks like there are no A330 flights in August unless there is an equipment swap, which doesn't seem too likely on a route where they have upgauged equipment at fairly short notice. Just book the 35K, it's much better than the regional 777s. Quick warning, CX is known for its equipment swaps on regional routes, but I have a feeling that this is the schedule they will stick with. I don't know about varying prices, but trying to book using an incognito tab might help.

i think demand is so high to Indonesia that CX changed recently to using the highest capacity yet trash B777-300 that has 438 seats on the route for more capacity.

i think they should have just increased frequencies though

You are an ABSOLUTE HERO!

Based on the info you mentioned (all 100% correct), I booked my flight on the A350-1000 - 8 and 15 August! Thanks again. If you're ever in Tokyo, I owe you a few beers!

You know they can swap your A35K with a B773.
If you accept this then everything will be fine.

Btw expertflyer shows CX521 is operated by a 773 on both 8/8 and 15/8.
Even CX shows the same.

OP is flying HKG (his typo) to DPS.
CX784/785 have been operated by a 773 in the past week. Hopefully the A350 will fly on his chosen dates as scheduled by CX

I just confirmed via the website you shared - 08/08 from HKG-DPS and 08/15 DPS-HKG is confirmed to be on the A350... when will we know if there is a swap? Usually 24 hours before or less?

It is called an equipmen lottery, they can swap on the same day like 1-2 hours before departure of your flight.

Hopefully not, but thanks for letting me know AMD. I'm assuming there's nothing Cathay will do to compensate passengers for the equipment swap? 77x is clearly a worse plane than the new A350
