I saw that. What’s so bad about it, sounds nice and just looks like a small portion from the pictures… Is it the “strawberry sauce” that doesn’t work? Or, much worse in my eyes, is the meat quality bad somehow?

Taste is always so subjective…

So sounds like I shouldn't pre-order anything? The following are available for pre-ordering (HKG to LHR):
  1. Bonless US pork ribs with strawberry sauce kai lan and egg fried rice - people are saying this is bad, so no longer a viable option
  2. (Duddell's) Shredded chicken noodle soup with Shanghainese pak choy and Huadiao wine - I rather have as my snack as available in all-day dining menu
  3. (Louise) Steamed halibut with chorizo sauce Basque piperade, fresh herbs - doesn't sound very exciting...
  4. Barley risotto with leak, mushroom and thyme mascarpone, parmigiano reggiano - not a fan of heavy carbs for a long haul flight (personal preference)
  5. Cannellini bean and garlic soup - sounds disgusting... and soup as main in J??
  6. Classic beef burger, Monterey Jack cheese bacon, tomato, pickled onions and zucchini on a toasted brioche bun - unfortunately I do not eat beef, so it's not an option for me...
Then maybe I shouldn't order anything and just hope that there's something better to select from the inflight menu............

You are setting a lot of restrictions for your inflight meal. You are not a fan of beef, not a fan of fish, not a fan of carbs, not a fan of soup, must order something exclusively served in supper, so you should consider order special meal (e.g. no beef meal, or even Kosher meal), then your meal would probably be unique on your flight.

Well the options I wanted to order had poor commentary. It’s a reflection on the poor catering CX is offering in J. If you read the comments in this post people had poor reviews of the pork ribs and the noodles. I also can’t imagine anyone wanting that bean soup as main. I am simply saying these meal options are not appetising for a long haul flight and frankly, not a good reflection for a “premium airline”.

I am still wondering what’s so bad about the pork ribs or the noodles for that matter. Only because one poster on here didn’t like it- who knows? Tastes are so varied.

Me too. I think I will end up trying the pork ribs. I shall report back.

bro judging food purely based on description is just downright closed minded

FYI this IS the inflight menu. The pre order and inflight menu is identical. It isn’t like SQ Book the Cook or BR pre flight menu with extensive choices in addition to their regular inflight menu. And yes, I don’t get why CX can’t do what others manage to do, offering more choices before the flight like SQ and BR. I have given my feedback all the time to their top management but they simply don’t care lol

The steamed halibut was cooked to perfection, very tender and fell apart in the mouth. Even thought the sauce sounds dodgy it is worth a go.

My mother is interested in the option but wonders how hot the sauce is. She is not good with spicy food, especially in the air. I know this is subjective, but any comments appreciated. Thanks!

Not spicy at all.

had it twice, liked it a lot !

really good for inflight meal

infact the spiciest meal I have had was in Qatar air cx has nothing on them when it comes to “spicy” 😂😂

Report back on the huadiao noodle

yes looks more like a snack but the flavour is there (presentation wise very so so ) but the flavour is there

not much in it. Just white noodle, some bits of chicken but the broth lifts its taste profile.

I asked the crew to reserve a portion to replace my breakfast.

did not recall it being spicy.

the fish was tender and tasted fine on its own I didn’t had much of the sauce.
