https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4af6eb8a3.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...446f1bbc2.jpeg worth noting the online system only presented 2 out of 5 lunch options. Luckily the flight was very empty (96 pax on a 77W) so i asked and was able to switch to another option despite booking the noodle |

HKG-CDG, midnight departure:
”Supper” is essentially dinner service without the starter. We had filled up so well with the excellent food in the First Lounge in HKG that this suited us quite well. Champagne was again the rather average Drappier- I see that sometimes Ayala is served which I would by far prefer but no luck for us. My partner had selected the “Chicken with Sichuan Pepper” which unfortunately was a big disappointment as there wasn’t even a trace of sichuan peppers to be found. No numbing feeling in the mouth, not even a faint Sichuan pepper taste, nothing. I’m fully aware that Westerners love to call any fake Chinese food “Sichuan” but if an airline based in China specifically mentions Sichuan peppercorns, then I expect better (and I am by no means Chinese myself). The pork bone soup on the side was actually the best part of this dish. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c472c6e3e.jpeg I had the beef tenderloins with mushroom which were excellent but I could hardly enjoy it as I was so full. We have exactly the same menu coming up on our return flight to Sydney (which is a real miss in my eyes- while I understand that all flights out of HKG seem to get the same menu, this unfortunately means that anyone doing a return out of Australia within the same month will get the same menu twice which is just a bit- boring?) and given the chicken was less than desirable, we have decided to both get the beef again and hopefully next time fully enjoy it! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...67311b92a.jpeg For breakfast, after a decent sleep, my partner went for the so-called “lighter” option of a cold cut plate (any nutritionist would probably die just reading that this platter of salami, ham and cheese is supposed to be “lighter”) which he really enjoyed. I had the Western option which was surprisingly tasty, albeit not all too inspiring. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7fc602ab0.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b64f3d6be.jpeg |
Menu CDG-HKG
Just got onto the plane and this is the menu:
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6f3dcec8a.jpeg Had pre-ordered the egg noodle soup but not realise that it’s one of the small any time items. Was proactively offered to add one of the other choices but went for the burger as I’m not a big fan of lamb and don’t fancy the sides for either the chicken or the duck (mention “pumpkin” and I feel sick in the stomach instantly- kale isn’t any better in my book). Breakfast is the Western selection as it actually sounds quite alright with the pork sausages and bacon (you see, I obviously have a thing for roasted piggy pigs ;)): https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c4b175847d.jpg On non-food related matters: Staff so far absolutely excellent, easily put any SQ or EK crew to shame (maybe not QR but no one does). One thing that I absolutely hate about Cathay, however, is the config that lets Economy guests push through the business cabin. It’s a total mess even when two doors are used and spoils the entire boarding experience for premium passengers. Oh well, nobody’s perfect. |

Both the beef and salmon dishes out of LHR were quite bland and dry. I'll give the chicken a go later this month.

Majorly delayed morning departure out of HKG on daytime flight to Sydney. No champagne pre takeoff which irked many passengers, especially as we were waiting around for about 90 minutes after push back. I know that they would blame the “breakfast time” but really, it’s just a see through way to save a few bucks. And the boring Drappier champagne is really no big expense.
Breakfast for finally served roughly 2 hours after the original departure time, pretty wild turbulence out of HKG did not help. Had the “light” breakfast of Avo on toast with feta which was good enough though the brick-like rye bread was near impossible to cut. I find the whole breakfast thing a bit silly -one in the hotel, one in the airport lounge and then, just in case yet another caked up egg meal on the aircraft? At least, this was a little different. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...595c1b2ac.jpeg The main will apparently be served mid way through the flight but in the meantime there’s exactly nothing to nibble on this route. No burger, not even ice cream, nothing. Main meal will be exactly the same as what I had posted up thread from my HKG-CDH flight so I’m not too excited though the meal itself was actually really good. Some variety would help immensely. |

Your Cathay Delight looks "clumpy"... almost like the texture of the avo used on the toast! :D

A shout out for the underrated cheese burger available as a main or refreshment throughout a long haul flight. I was impressed by the juicy beef patty and perfectly melted cheese. Sadly there was no mayonnaise onboard that would be the proper condiment for the crispy fries. Great comfort food.
