On the topic of PVG, a scenario I don't think anyone has mentioned here just sprang to mind for me- is this policy limited to PVG specifically? Say, could someone ticketed for CX369 departing PVG at 5:30pm try for CX349 leaving SHA at 1:35pm instead? (these two being chosen such that if it were not to succeed, it would still be possible to make it to the other end of the city in time for the originally ticketed flight)

A week ago in Manila I got to airport too early and was proactively offered an earlier flight that I could take. They said my original flight had a high chance of getting delayed, so they were offering the earlier flight to whoever shows up early enough to take it.

Just arrived at HKG at around 2pm and trying to ask for moving me to CX380 from CX364. Was told the flight was full and suggested me a little earlier. I think it is because the check in cutoff time?

I also ask the lounge staff at PVG several times. They are sticking with:
1. Flex ticket
2. Check in cut off time
3. At check in counter not lounge.

I dont see 1 is a must but they make decisions at last.

Other issues aside, I believe Mainland China does not allow flight change post-immigration easily, so it cannot be processed in the lounge.

Just tried it today, showed up at SHA at 11am, the answer from check-in agent was Flex only. At least the new Airport Link meant I made it over to PVG with plenty of time to spare.

I just did a flight change today at PVG checkin counter. I arrived 6 hours before my original departure time. The request was successful as expected given that Im travelling on Flex ticket. The whole process was efficient and took less than 5 minutes. The sec number was quite large, likely because an earlier flight is delayed for 12 hours, but the flight Im on is a 77P so I dont think its 100% full.

I fly in and out of PVG weekly, and I'm in MNL at least once a month also. I'm OW Emerald, but I'm usually flying on an economy basic ticket.

I don't think I've ever had an occasion on which CX check in desk at MNL has refused to move me to an earlier flight. No fuss whatsoever. I think they like to let passengers 'fly forward' as much as possible on account of the general .... -how that is NAIA.

On my weekly PVG commute, the check-in desk is generally happy to let me move onto an earlier flight, however the lounge agents have never been able to do so, advising that I would need to go back through immigration to the front desk. This might be a regulatory thing. I usually just commiserate in the (nice, by China standards) CX lounge and wait to get on my ticketed flight.

You changed from 369 to 367? 363 had an equipment change today from 33P to 77P so I guess it absorbed most of the stranded passengers of 361 (which got cancelled).

Reward Flights

Has anyone had any luck changing a reward J flight on the same day?

Flying out of LHR and hoping to change for an earlier flight if my connecting flight arrives on time (separate booking).

Looks like my CX256 is fully booked and CX250 has quite a few seats left.

Yes indeed. Originally thinking about switching to 377 but I was early so I made it to 367.

Im surprised the lounge is very quiet, always thought PVG lounge will be quite busy given it has frequent flights and being elite heavy.

I managed to change a J redemption booking at the LHR lounge reception free of charge, from 256 to 250 two weeks ago.

My flight today was quiet as well. Only half full in J and even emptier at the back.

I shall try my luck over the weekend.
It might have helped that you are CX DM.
