so knowing awards seat are fluid and they never answer the hotline (i waited 4hr this week) i had to fork out 25USD for change to do it myself
Truly a faceslam moment. But understandably, investing in IT isn't on CX's priority at the moment... so having people inundate their call centre seems to be the easiest way out.

Unfortunately, this has been the case with all airlines offering a specific covid policy. They are not rewriting their IT programs and you have to call for the agent to override the normal change fee.

Strange that you say this because for me it feels like Asia Miles is the only place I can find decent reward availability in fairly short notice. Since May I have booked and flown the following (all were booked around 1 month out from the departure date):
1x RUH to CDG on QR J
2x RUH to CDK on QR F/J
1x CDK to CDG on UL J

IMHO, there is absolutely no point looking for CX availability while quarantine still in place in HK. Risk of cancellation has proved to be too high to bother.

Agreed. This thread is kind of hilarious. I'm much less concerned with CX award availability and much more concerned with whether or not the airplane will actually take-off and land.

It's an improvement from 3-4 months ago when the question was whether CX will continue to exist.

AsiaMiles website yesterday showing J LHR-BKK availability in February. Depending on dates, Qatar, Finnair, Royal Jordan. So we are talking ~ 6 months upfront and note that in addition to taxes, there is also now a significant fuel surcharge.

QR has always had pretty hefty fuel surcharges, certainly more than RJ on similar routes I've compared in the past. Not sure how AY compares to both.

You are right about that: QR LHR-BKK, 70k AM points + 300+ taxes, + 400+ fuel surcharge. 1 way. Feb 2023.
PS, in J with no seat no. allocation.

Not upgrade but last week I managed to get full redemption (which seems to be near-impossible ever since the pandemic) for my October trip.
Flight 1) LHR - JFK with BA J class
Flight 2) LAX - HKG with CX J class

Booked online or by calling the Asia Miles hotline?
