$25K per calendar month is still quite reasonable and 3X VS annual limit

Still very reasonable and not the apocalypse many Red card holders were expecting.

For sure it isn't as bad as expected but there goes unlimited online cashback (for me was great in paying my rent through KeyChainPay. New changes mean the cashback will be closer to 0.9% once fees are taken into account). I guess it was good while it lasted.

It's very disappointing - local online payments have been a great way to buy expensive things during the pandemic. Hermes, Louis Vuitton, A Lange & Sohne - all of these shops allow online payments and if for the first two, you can exchange for the things you actually like in the store, if the item is not available online.

Stop trying to earn 4% on your Tourbographs.

I just picked up an out-of-production AT from Chrono24 with Red and it's sitting in my office desk floor.
I can still stay in that price range with new Red monthly spending limits.

(Seems like I picked up a new hobby and moved over to WUS)

Haha - these large transactions are probably what caused HSBC to put a limit!

With the covid situation looming, the miles earning credit card is not that attractive...but anyway
I am looking for a credit card that is providing IMMEDIATE CashBack for eligible spending in local currency in Hong Kong.
I saw Standard Chartered Simply Cash Visa card is providing 1.5% rebate.
The question is are they highest in the market now?

Well it's not immediate in that you have to go through their asi____ website to redeem cashback. And have to do it in multiples of 50 (can roll forward to next statement).

ICBC Horoscope essentially does the same 1.5%; plus, has no cross-border charge and auto-rebates 1.5% at the end of each statement.

HSBC is actually immediate cash back. Reward Cash is posted as soon as your transaction is processed and you can immediately use it to pay off your statement - via the app and not website too.

True but 1% for non-online spend and online spend >$25,000/month is a bit pedestrian.

So if I were you, you will recommend ICBC Horoscope?

On the other hand you have to get used to a thoroughly Mainland internet banking and banking app even for HK (CCB shares the same fault) that doesn’t give a straight answer to how much you owe, possible branch first card pickup (and for some extensions, too, for about 1 in 10 card extensions, the occurrence I can’t fathom why but I know I am not their typical customer with 17 cards).

Their CS aren’t the easiest to get to pick up but otoh I have to say all the interactions I have with them are pleasant. I haven’t had to chargeback anything but I did have to sort out a few dining promotions (hence the 17 cards - they throw out 200 for 3000 dining quite a lot and the limits are applied per card than by per HKID).

This is a flyer thread isn’t it? I’ll make a half-sincere attempt to tie this back to flying by saying this is my gateway to Dragonpass - not the Horoscope card but rather the Sands card and the Traveller Diamond Unionpay (https://www.icbcasia.com/ICBC/海外分行/工...iamondcard.htm) card. It was the source of half a dozen free lunches at airport Itamae (now closed, sadly) when I was returning from JEP runs for JGC when between jobs.

I was arriving after the runs so I had a lawful reason to be in the prescribed area post-injunctions. I had six Dragonpass tokens across each of my Sands and my Traveller Unionpay.

Pre-protests (namely 2018), there was one other Unionpay card (ICBC Greater Bay Area) that allowed unlimited Dragonpass tokens - let’s just say certain people working or living near the airport attempted a Super Size Me on Itamae and Tai Hing.

Dragonpass will be me and my wife’s preferred way to access Plaza Premium lounges outside of HK when on LCCs after they dropped access to Priority Pass/Lounge Key holders - I only have ten lounge visits on Amex Explorer, and my in-laws will use those.

O’Leary’s was another good use of Dragonpass tokens - I can get a main and a drink for a token.

Thanks for sharing Percy. I feel like the online 4% for ride apps "loophole" will probably be closed soon, or they will let it run until mid-2021 when it seems like they will revamp the Red card's rewards program anyways. Good to keep an eye on.
Anyone know if the latest changes on Red patches the loophole? Thinking of getting Red just for my Ubers.
