I actually find AE acceptance has increased a lot; AE has probably been pushing hard to small HK businesses. And increasingly if you use apps (HKTaxi, Uber, HKTV Mall etc) they all take AE.

The biggest growth in benefits isn't with AE vs non-AE, it's whether merchants take mobile pay or not. I’m getting very militant whenever told at the til “Visa Master or Cash Sir”, my wife usually steps in and takes out her Wirex.

Are there any cards in the HK market that can rival my US-issued Citi Prestige, AMEX Platinum, or Chase Sapphire Reserve?

For Asia Miles specifically?

If for overall benefits, then simply put: no. US-based cards are the envy of many around the world for the wealth of benefits and points they provide. Just compare the AMEX Platinum US and HK versions - it's night and day.

I meant benefits and earning points. I'm surprised. I thought HK would be competitive with the US.

It has improved drastically over time, especially over the past several years. It is often forgotten than in just 2014/2015, the best cards on the market were cards like the SCB WorldMiles and HSBC Platinum card, which are horrendous compared to the standard of HK cards today.

But the US premium credit card market is too developed, with perks like: no FX transaction fee, streaming credits / Uber credits / travel credits, comprehensive travel insurance and purchase protection, rotating categories of up to 5% cash back, massive sign up bonuses, and on and on.

(Asia) Miles were worth more back then. Essentially CX printed money like John Law

More grade tiering in US interchange (between high reward cards and others)? I'm not sure why a US consumer are treated better than his HK counterpart - especially there are some "big mac" products where comparisons can be made - Citi Prestige, Amex Plat.

Is the new EveryMile card a good alternative for the BEA WorldFlyer? Not sure if that card still has any benefits at all at this point which would make it preferential over EveryMile or Explorer (other than Master vs AmEx acceptance on the latter)...?

It's better than WorldFlyer. Same general earn rate for both, but EveryMile gives you a lot more transfer partners for flexibility (whereas I think WorldFlyer only has Asia Miles), plus you get bonus categories that are $2=1 mile, and some other small benefits like free lounge access.

Yeah, I thought so. I guess the front page Wiki hasn't been updated in some time. Time to scrap the BEA WF.
Thanks!

Stop buying Apple Gift Cards until further notice

Apple just invoked this clause to dishonour purchases of iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and certain current year release iPads effectively immediately until further notice

HSBC EveryMile Card

Am I right in thinking that HSBC EveryMile Card (@HK$12.5 = 1 mile) now beats all other cards for online bill payment (except CCB Visa Infinite/Diamond Prestige)?
Any evidence yet on what rate you get suing HSBC EveryMile with AliPay/WeChat? And how do you take advantage of the HK$2=1 mile rate for Citybus/KMB? (which I don't think take credit cards?)

Yes but no miles are worth 1.5% cash rebate, so go get the ICBC Virtual Cards https://www.icbcasia.com/ICBC/海外分行/工...gital_card.htm

HSBC doesn’t rebate on Alipay/Wechat - put that on CCB eye card.

Citybus and KMB buses now have an additional reader that can scan Alipay/Unionpay 云闪付 App (not Wechat yet I think) *and* next to it is a paywave reader.
Not very reliable, on the last 8 or so bus rides, two had malfunctioning readers (in one case two buses on the same route arrived at same time so I took the other bus).

.
Thanks. So (if opting for cash) ICBC is best for online bill payments? Does the ICBC card work with the Unionpay app and WeChat/Alipay as well? Or is CCB JD better there?
