Sticking my neck out a bit here but I'm willing to assert a bill payment will not be treated as a top-up.

Seems like SCB is filtering by name rather than MCC or CVM. Both ALIPAY*mPAY and AlipayHK*mPAY is currently rebated (P2P AlipayHK is not rebated but ALIPAY *AlipayHK is https://forum.hongkongcard.com/forumSE/show/24912 ).

See Section IX https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showwiki.php?t=1948453 . I've pruned some entries in the section since unfortunately pointstomiles has decided to shut down his FB page. But the other two bloggers are updating theirs.

"Offer 1" should work for AP/WC/PM, right?

Looks like they misadvertise it as x8 points – there is nothing near x8, though the promo is still good.

In regards of redeeming Awardflights (Cathay and British Airways)

Is the availibility different if you're using Asia Miles or BA Avios?

I'm soon moving to Hong Kong and I'm struggeling to decide whether I should go all out for Asia Miles or try to find a credit card with Avios/Amex MR points(and transfer to avios)...

Citi has BAEC and AM as partners. It's always better to have flexibility, since for short routes BAEC is better, while for long routes AM is better.
When availability is really scarce, having it with AM doesn't help, since they raise award rates (BAEC does not do this sh#t with CX awards).

Thanks!

Hmm, it's a hard choice!

I've also thought about Amex Plat but I guess Amex isn't accepted widely in HK..

Any suggestions for an expat coming to HK?

Heretical though this may seem here, you might consider going for cashback on your cards. There are lots of promos and deals here; by playing the best ones you might be able to get up to 4-5% or so back on average. AsiaMiles is a pretty poor programme these days in terms of availability at reasonable cost.

IMO it's hard to justify Amex fee, if you talk about proper Amex Platinum and not cobrands. Citi Prestige is a better deal, though not as sweet as it was recently.

Valid point.
I think I have decided to use Citi (or Standard Charterd) for my main bank.

And in addition use a few other cards and save both AM and Avios :)

Which bank do you recon is best for everyday use?
Like Octopus topup/pay bills/mobile app/recieve payroll?

Citi or SC?

Do you currently have a bank account with either where you are now? US banking regulations seems to have made it harder to open accounts here, and sometimes people have to go with whichever bank will take them, rather than being able to shop around. It can be harder for US citizens, even those with PR, as some banks (staff) don't want the trouble.

If your goal is to maximise miles (or even cashback) then the first three are about your credit cards, not your bank account. The two are pretty much separate things. Many people here have credit cards with multiple banks to maximise the miles/rewards earning.
For the bank account, if Citi or HSBC is in your home country and you meet the criterion then I would go for CitiGold or HSBC Premier for the ease of moving money around. HSBC gets some grief amongst people here, but I've been with them for 20 years and I'm pretty happy. Their Visa Signature credit card also has some of the best reward earning deals around (but you can get that without banking with them).
