Dear flyers,

I have a ticket, which was ISSUED on 16th of January 2002 by a travel agent. However, on this ticket, the FIRST outgoing segment was taken on 5th of Feb., 2002. I have a open return segment which I want to travel on 4th of Feb. 2003

At the time of purchasing this ticket, I was told that it is valid for 1 year, and I was lead to believe it means 4th of Feb. 2003. However, I called CX MPC line, and the representatives told me I can only travel to the date of issuance, making it on 15th of Jan. 2003

I'm not quite convinced by this, as I know MPC agents are not experts in ticketing issues. I don't want to be fooled, so does anybody know when my ticket is actually valid through? Is it 1 year from Issuance date?

u r right, and the agent is wrong.
in fact on the ticket coupon, u sd be able to see the date of validity/expiration
under "invalid after" -- should bot have any ambiguity

unless u r saying the ticket was issued to fly on Jan/15 but you changed the start date in the airport when u checked in on feb/5.
then it becomes complicated

Thanks pegasus for confirmation , and ticket was originally issued to fly on 5th of Feb. I thought I was right, and it doesn't make sense otherwise. Say, for example, I ISSUED a first class ticket now for flight next year, then does that mean my ticket is worthless after the first segment?

Do you mean if it is a award ticket? NO, it's a revenue ticket which I bought from travel agent in vancouver. For your interest, I never buy J/F class, which makes it a Y class ticket . It's an M class booking, which is valid for a year.

Lucky I got this confirmation. I have to reserve quick for HKG-YVR during Chinese New Year, and M class always runs out quick. I will give a call to reservation center to double check on this issue.

Can confirm that the maximum validity (if no date shown under "not valid after") is one year from the date of first segment of ticket, not the date of issuance.

However, if you choose to change your outbound date to a later date, unless your whole ticket is reissued to reflect the change in date, the old maximum validity (ie, one year after the date of the first segment of ticket) applies, rather than one year after the new date of outbound travel.

Had a chat with ticketing department, and they also did confirm that it's valid from first segment, not date of issuance.

I wonder how serious the "not valid after" column of tickets are treated by airline. sometimes, travel agents put wrong dates on this column for no apparant reason, and in fact mine says "not valid after 2nd of Dec". The Ticketing department can easily confirm the actual validity of my ticket, but it's when I'm talking to under-knowledged MPC staffs, these little notes makes it extremely hard for me to convince that my ticket is valid through Febuary.

Nope, wondered more if it was a special ticket like a consolidator ticket or an RTW.

Only award tickets are valid 1 year from date of issue.
