Dropping of ANC as a refuelling stop
Here's some news about CX dropping ANC as a refuelling stop for the YYZ-HKG flights (flights stop at YVR instead). Seems that between CX and CI, it's costing ANC US$100k monthly in lost revenues.

Guy Betsy,
Is CX unaware of the revenue potential of dropping/picking up passengers between YYZ and YVR?
I think Air Canada has a virtual monopoly between YYZ and YVR. Some comptetion wouldn't be bad.

Very nice indeed!
Perhaps we should say "currently not allowed". Let's hope the situation changes in the future.

I can see YYZ-YVR being allowed (since all pax orignated from Canada) but if it was YVR-YYZ with a flight originating from HKG, al pax will have to clear at YVR or the joining pax at YVR will have to pass through immigration at YYZ. Hardly a convenience.

Sadly, I think AC would be wise to fight tooth and nail to ensure that CX does not get cabotage rights on this route. Having recently completed my first AC flight (YVR-YYZ), I can see that AC would have very legitimate grounds to be worried about even minimal competition from CX. AC service and scheduling is, how to say, very relaaaaxed.
