My cancelled flight was CX358 from MAN. No extra charges were made and a new travel document has arrived in my email. But I can't check in online for the new flight because there is a message that says .
Do I need to worry about this?

Thanks

Sometimes when a booking is changed the e-ticket number is disassociated from the booking reference, leading to that error. It happened to me just last week. You can call to fix it if it puts your mind at ease or you want to select seats, but it shouldn't be a problem otherwise.

I'm on a F redemption booking via QFF. Will CX rebook me or will they palm me off to QF, in which case the obvious problem is finding award bucket availability at the last minute - but surely CX have a responsibility to honour the ticket?

2747-3333 is engaged when I try to call. What should I do?

Also, I already checked-in my luggage via HK Station Airport Express. What should I do about my luggage?

CX will put you on the next available flight as though you were on a paid booking. The only difference MAY be that you're at the back of the queue as an airmiles passenger, but a queue of 6 in F is not exactly huge.

I don't know the answer to your luggage question.

Thank you phol, I will call the UK number when it opens.

I don't know the answer to your luggage question.

Girl on the phone said they keep the luggage, and I should just arrive at the airport early for check-in so they have time to retrieve it from storage and properly re-tag.

I tried asking to be rerouted via FRA but she claimed it was full and said they don't overbook F (for obvious reasons). Asked if she could try putting me via LHR or elsewhere in Europe but she didn't want to look at that. I suppose all of Tuesday's flights will be in disarray anyway. Was hoping I could get something early on Wednesday to miss less of my holiday.

I need to get to HK and understand the difficulties caused by NIDA. But will Cathay be helpful in getting me a new booking or will I have to stump up full fare to get on the first available flight?

Note that if this is a T8, then HK shuts down. So even if you get to HK on schedule, don't be surprised if you have to kick your heels for a while until the storm is over. E.g. taxis no longer have obligation to take meter fares (well, actually their insurance is void in T8, so their risk to continue working)

The AEL (airport train) continues to run though, so you can at least get downtown.

Not really, T8 doesn't shut HKG down but normally a T9 will (and for obvious reason T10). CX tends to cancel early as to avoid rerouting and other worse drama to put passenger in hotels, etc chaotic situation.

As this time Nida is planned on a direct hit to HKG CX takes the conservative approach for advanced cancellation and reroute everyone ....

And then be stuck at the station.

The MTR continues to run in a typhoon. Occasionally there are issues with power lines on the more exposed above-ground sections (mainly on East and West Rail), but the core sections (Island, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Tseung Kwan O lines) all carry on, albeit at reduced frequency sometimes.

To be clear, most T8s are just a somewhat windy day by the standards of the rest of the world. T9 & T10 are somewhat more serious, but rarer.

ha, no it's usually okay...the MTR (subway) generally also runs during T8. You can make your way around town. It becomes a major pain in the butt if you need to go somewhere requiring the ferry or car/taxi. But if you're going to a hotel that's accessible from HK's web of MTR/skyways/underground walkways/malls, you will generally be fine in T8.

Overall, if your destination is a HK Island hotel, or a hotel in Kowloon or TST that's directly on the MTR line, you're *usually* okay in a T8.

T9 or T10, everything shuts down.

I'm at HKG right now, flying out this afternoon on 882, which is scheduled to leave at 16:35. Crossing my fingers...

I am scheduled to NGB at 6:15pm. Waves of cancellations starting at 8pm.

Wonder if I should just try and call in to see if get the ticket refunded (cheap V class + GO). The trip won't be worth it if I can't leave until tmr...

you will be fine. these things don't hit earlier than planned, it's usually just the intensity and whatnot.

HK Observatory has instructed people that they "may" raise the T8 signal at 6pm. This pretty much means there's no way it's going up before then. And it means the storm, if it hits as predicted, will be intense late night.

Anyway, the key with these things is not being on a cancelled flight (as some unfortunate posters above have already experienced). But if you're actually on a flight that's going, the airport and CX are pretty much pros at handling the situation. They only briefly shut down operations IME even if you're in the thick of the typhoon, which again won't happen until 10pm or later tonight if it occurs. The key is not being on one of the proactively cancelled flights, or less-likely but also happens when you get a diversion. In these situations you can be sol for 24-48 hours.

There's no way they'd can CX882 (same with CX840, etc.), because it'd be unnecessary and would also cause extra havoc for the return flights. They already have enough problems on their hands.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. That makes sense. :)

We arrived at JFK at 10:30PM to find that the 01:30 departure of CX 845 had been cancelled. The agent linked my PNR with that of my gf. She also took my phone number to add to the records.

We are stuck in NYC.

Her ticket is paid and she is midway through the SIN-HKG-JFK-HKG-SIN.
Mine is a CX F AAdvantage redemption.

The agent at JFK said that if we find a hotel ourselves for up to $250, they would reimburse the hotel and transportation.

Will wake up in the morning to try to see what is going on. But will I see any rebooking they do through the "manage booking" part of the CX website?

QRC3288 Aug 1, 2016 12:53 am

man i feel bad for you guys getting hit with the cancellations...sucks. kinda inevitable a few times a year this part of the world with the typhoons, but still sucks just bad luck
