Early reset for tier

I have a number of OW flights coming up this month and next. All in premium classes, so should be nice when the Tier Points system comes into play.

My membership year is due to reset end of December. I already have like 160k+ miles and 90+ sectors, so I'm not worried. However since they're changing the program next year, I want to get a head start on the renewal.

I'm thinking of removing my mileage on my next few flights in November and then come December 1st, reset my tier to a new year, so then my new membership year is December 2015 - December 2016 (like it is currently if I don't manually reset). Then I perform a retro credit for the flights I'm taking later this month, and for my flights in December I don't have to retrocredit (since I would be in my new membership year).

Did I think this out correctly?

I thought you can do the early rest trick whenever you had your 80th flight / 120k miles flown?

Yeah, I could have, but I chose not to because I was waiting for updates to the new program.

Considering the difficulties in accruing CP in general after MPO program updates,
I think you should renew your status as early as you qualify for it.

If you have a number of premium flights coming up, reset now to take advantage of conversion. In the future it's that much harder to earn TPs under the new system.

Can you clarify why it is harder to earn TPs under the new system? I thought that one of the main purposes of the MPC revamp was to reward frequent flyers who fly in the premium classes. Shouldn't it then be easier to earn the TPs (toward whatever tier) under the new system?

For example, I have an upcoming trip in December in JL business class (TPE-NRT-YVR return), and I am thinking of holding off crediting to MPC now, and just apply for retroactive credit past 15.Apr.2016.

Under current MPC scheme, I would only get 4 x 1.25 = 5 sectors. This is 5/80, or 6.25%, towards Diamond. Under the new MPC scheme, I would get 25+60+60+25 = 170 TPs. This would be 170/1200, or 14.17%, towards Diamond. That's a big difference and the new MPC scheme seems to reward me better.

I thought someone posted here that future conversion is sector/miles whichever is greater, so if you are traveling long haul, with bonus miles, it's better to credit now than later.

JFK - HKG - JFK: business class = 20,000 miles, 20,000/120,000 = 16.7% towards DM

it really depends. If J or C for JFK-HKG roundtrip - credit later is better than now. On the other hand, if D or I, credit now is better than later.

Well I have already removed my MPO number from the flights I'm taking in November. I was planning to reset on December 1st and then retro credit my November flights. This way I have an extra month (not that I should need it) the following year. I mean I could reset now, but then my membership year would be November 2015 to November 2016?

I'm also wondering can I still earn status by flying sectors? Because the website now makes no mention of it.

There is one more options for me... and since I live in the US now, I could switch to AA.

Yes, one year from the reset DATE. You can pinpoint your next renewal date on 2016 at your discretion.

In the new system there would not be Sectors/Miles differentiation anymore,
everything would become ClubPoint-based.
